I have been looking all over for a HIGH amp alternator for my GSX.
I have found many for the non turbo eclipse but only a few for my car.
The ones I did find are only 140 amps, I was hoping to find something more than that
at a decent price.
I figgure I couldnt find anything on the search engines so I would ask the people who know how to get things done.So if you know where to find an alternator that might work for me please let me know.

THANKS

I was looking for the same thing, an alternator that puts out some real amps. This place i found is about the best price for the amps. He says he can do 180 amps for 340 bucks. That is king of high, but i had 5 other places quote me 600 and up.

the guys email is [email protected] the place is
www.excessiveamperage.com This is a price for a 2g. If you have a 1g it will probably be a little cheaper.:talon:

THANKS talondsp1 I appreciate the help.just emaild him for a quote.
Thats not to bad of a price you told me, I have also seen alot of the 600+ dollar ones too.
One was 220 amp and chrome plated and they wanted $1000,nice but way out of my budget...LOL
Thanks Again

No problem. It is a decent price for the amps.

Yeah, 1000.00 is a bit high for an alternator for sure!!

220 amps DC you can weld alloy with that! How many current drawing accessories have you got on you car to need that.

Not to mention how much it's going to suck your engine down at full pull.

I would think the belt would fail before you pull a full 220 amps. Hell , My 230 volt mig welder only pulls 230 at full tilt and it weighs probably around 300 pounds.

Anyway, those have to be custom winds. I don't think you can just go and buy one of the parts shelf. Someone is really pushing the limited amount of space inside the alternator. There's not a lot of space to push.

Good Luck

I have been considering switching to a Saturn alternator. My choices are stock 95A, or a 160A or 200A one from eBay with lifetime warranty. I realize the 95A would be sufficient for me with a relatively stock car, but I want to go big so I’m prepared for fuel pumps and fans that require lots of power. The price differences are negligible and I will be rewiring the alternator no matter which I go with.

My question is, what disadvantages or concerns are there when going with a high amp alternator? I have read that the higher amp alternators will eat more horsepower (although how much I don’t know) and they are slightly heavier. Is there a risk of overcharging the system and the voltage going too high?

I am doing the 200 amp Saturn alt swap. I got it for around 120 bucks new, to install it I had to grind the alternator and part of the block. The only problem is the pulley has more groves but some have run it like that with no probs.

Thanks, but I'm not interested in spending $500+ for an alternator.

You can put the stock 4 groove pulley on the Saturn alternator.
