I just installed a new Faze Oil Pressure Gauge, after not having a working stock one for a long time. I read 25psi @ idle and at WOT I read 100+.

Yesterday on the drive home, I granny drove it all the way home. When I got on my street, I got on it a bit to feel a power loss. Oil Press. dropped to 0, oil light came on. Coasted into my driveway. Looking around seen the oil filter housing was very loose. Tighted it up, reinstalled the oil filter, new oil, and pressure was fine. Everything was ok.

Today I'm driving home about 1/4 mi from my girls house, I hear & feel a loud bang on the floorboard. Noticed about 10 seconds later no oil press. oil light was on. Got home, checked filter & housing, everything was fine. I look further back, and my wire running to the pressure sensor is hanging, the pressure sensor that came with my gauge is gone! (Broke off @ the threads) Whats going on here!? Do I have too much oil pressure? Bad Luck(obviously)? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Well installing a gauge did give you high oil pressure. My pressure can drop to around 10 psi at idle and climb near 100 psi at redline so you are not that much higher. The gauge you intalled may not be totally accurate either, I like Autometer gauges. What it did was make you aware of the pressure. By the way where are you getting the pressure signal from? When I checked mine it was by removing the stock sending unt and attaching a gauge there. Mark

yea, thats where I put it. I might have threaded it too tightly or something. What it was, it needed 2 adapters. 1 to fit the threads to the housing, 1 to fit the gauge's sending unit, it broke off at the one thats in the housing. perfectly, i'm going to have to extract it. Maybe it was just a weak adapter. I was just checking with you guys on pressure levels.

I read 100psi when it first starts, 35-30psi when its warm at idle and around 100+psi at WOT past 4k rpm. New motor, no balance shafts.

I have found brass adapters can be poorly manufactured and got one that was machined thin to the point I could see light through it! Mark
PS: Good luck with the repair. Mark

Do you have the protective plastic shield on near the crankshaft pulleys/ harmonic balancer? My guess is that something on the road took out the sensor. Your pressure is fine. I have 25 psi at idle and 100+ while winding out also.

If you think about it, that sensor plus a bunch of adapters hanging off your block is a lot of weight on a long lever arm. You should consider either using steel fittings or using a small piece of braided line (-3 or -4 would work great) to mount your sensor either on the firewall or up by the power steering reservoir. Should only cost you about 25 bucks for lines and fittings. Another alternative, instead of using adapters, use a 1/8" NPT tap on the housing, then flush it with brake cleaner. This is what my friend did and it worked very well. The downside is you can no longer use your stock sending unit because you have changed the threads to standard NPT.

the plastic guard is there.

Update: Upon replacing sending unit, I put it in low(auto) and rev'd it out, redline, and let it whine back down, as soon as I let off the gas, I heard the sending unit bounce off the floorboard. It has to be a weak adapter, thanks for your help.

Update:
I replaced the gauge with another faze gauge, autozone special. Upon installation gave it a test drive, I put it in low(automatic) and reved it out to redline, then let off gas to get the max oil psi. Upon letting off the gas, i heard it pop off and smack the floorboard. I guess these gauges are just pieces of shit, I will now return it and get a autometer.

The gauge isn't broken.. With the balance shafts removed it's normal to see very high Oil pressure.. What kind of oil weight are you using? Blocking off the oil hole when you remove the balance shaft is what cause all the extra oil pressure.. But you have to block them.. Just don't rev over 8K or it could spell disaster for your valves. This is why I had a trend a month or so back..

You'd probably be right, except I have my balance shafts. and I haven't plugged any hole yet. I also looked to see what it could be hitting, my dad said my motors mounts may be bad. The closest thing to it is the crank pulley, and the oil pan would hit the ground if the sending unit did... so It can't be that. I'm going to plug the original hole is where the stock sending unit goes. Then I'm going to relocate it to the front of the housing using on of the holes that are plugged from the factory.
