When I picked up my car after having it dyno tuned I took it out for a short (10 mins or so) spirited drive to check for problems. I wound it out a few times to 7500 rpms through 2nd and 3rd gear at 23ish psi on pump gas. It was running great and I had a huge smile on my face until about a minute later when I pulled over at a gas station to check out the car. I popped the hood and glanced down only to notice a large stream of oil pouring out from underneath the motor. Luckily I had turned the engine off before it started pouring out. Turns out, my oil filter housing had popped off of the engine and was completely loose. All the threads had stripped out allowing most of the oil to pour out of the engine. We swapped out the oil filter housing with a good one and replaced the filter with a new Wix and the issue has not happened since. However, I have not driven the car hard for more than a few short pulls since then because I'm so paranoid about it. My engine is 2.4 liter 9:1 wiseco/crower w no balance shafts. I checked my oil pressure with a mechanical gauge from the dummy light area on the front of the oil filter housing yesterday and it showed 90psi from a cold start. I have heard some people suggest that porting the OFH sometimes causes more issues than it fixes. Do you think the oil pressure is high enough to cause the OFH to blow off, or could it have been something else? Should I switch to lower weight oil or a different filter perhaps?

If you done the BSE without porting the valve, I bet that is what it is, it only cause problems if you don't know what you are doing. I'm not really aware of anything else that might have caused it.

I get about 80-90 psi on a cold start and have no problems. I thinks thats pretty normal though. And im running 5w40 oil too.

It's that sad excuse for an oil cooler that came on your car. The center bolt was probably loose and caused the sandwich seal to blow out - the design of it is absolute garbage. Replace it with a reliable air/oil cooler and you won't have that issue anymore.

you guys think my oil pressure is too high? about 90 on a cold start and when its warm its about 60 psi at 3k and rises with rpms. Didnt check what its at at redline yet.

Yes. An oil filter will explode before a correctly working filter housing blows off.

Cold start should be 45psi, then warmed up idle is about 20-30, winding it out ive seen 70 psi.

Now, 80-90 on a cold start-up?? you should have ported the oil relief when you had the new OFh out of the car, id suggest take it off, and port it, god only knows if you are over oiling your turbo, (i learned hard way) Just look at porting oil relief theres a easy write-up, its super easy and will take your oil P's down by half or more hopefully. The only problems I am aware of from this mod is not deburring the pistons shaft well enough so the oil relief valve sticks on the burrs and causes even more pressure. But thats an easy fix also.

well I have my balance shafts out. How much oil pressure is too much at redline?

The BSE without porting your valve is the main culprit behind this, my first start cold is about 70, then drops to about 50 at idle, redline, about 80 from what I've seen.

whats weird is that I get 10psi at idle and 60psi at 3k when its warm. Why is it such a big jump?
