I was driving, going about 60 in 3rd (about 5000 rpms) and the oil line feeding my oil cooler blew off. I drove a few blocks (less than a minute) before i knew what exactly had happened and i stopped. It was blown off by too much pressure and i was wondering if there was a cause for this much pressure (it has been installed for a few months without a problem)? Also what are the chance of having engine damage from this? Thanks for your help :dsm:

I take it that the hoses are held on by hose clamps rather than AN fittins since it blew off?

I have seen regular hose clamps loosen over time. This would cause the hose to blow off.

Another thing i have seen is when people overtighten the hose clamp, it can start to separate and not have as much of a bite as it should, This will cause the hose to come off too.

I would clean everything very well with brake parts cleaner, put the hose back on, and use 2 hose clamps for extra hold. Make sure not to over tighten. After they are tight, take the excess and bend it over the screw. This is another way of preventing it from loosening.

I had the same thing happen to me just 2 weeks ago. Did you have the AN fitting installed properly? The steal braided in the coupler piece as well as rubber. I had got in a rush and just put the rubber in, cutting the steal back a lil bit. (before any one makes a comment -about that, It was to be temporary, 1 yr later tho the rubber let go.)

So i had a couple people tell me that my cat on my exhaust might have caused the pressure (the oil pressure jumped to 100+ psi right before the line blew). I just had the cat installed a couple days before to pass DEQ, another told me to check the release valve on the oil pump. Would either of these cause my problem (i suspect the release valve would so i'll check it) thanks for the help
