Ok,
I'm stuck. Trouble with a 92 Talon - Stock and well maintained. 107k miles, non-turbo 2.0, 5 speed.

I'm having high idle (around 1500 rpm)...but whats new. Anyway. It started running rough. Around 4k rmp it starts to spudder. Checked ICS and ohmed out fine. Checked ohms on oxygen sensor, checked out fine. No apparent vacuum leaks. Checked temp sensor and it checked bad. It was reading that my engine that hadn't run in 2 days was @170 degrees. Changed that. Cleaned with SeaFoam and put in new plugs becuse of carbon build up on the old ones. (Which were not that old, maybe 4k miles). Still no love.

Oh, no DataLink yet. Have to do it the old fashioned way.

Can anyone point me in the direction for instructions on how to test the voltage with an analog meter? I see people saying to do it, but would like to see how.

Yes, I do have a repair book and no I'm not new to cars.

Any thoughts? (I'd rather find the problem than throwing parts at it and hoping for it to get fixed.)

Thanks

I'm in your network

When you checked your ISC, did you *only* check resistance, or did you connect the motor to a 6v battery? My ISC went bad a couple months back, and it ohmed out within specs, but was still bad.
Follow these instructions for a complete test, if you haven't already:

How recently did you replace your Coolant Temp Sensor? Sometimes you need to reset your ECU after replacing parts like this. Just disconnect your battery for 10-15 mins to clear the ECU. The car might run a little rough for a bit afterwards, but once the ECU re-learns all of its settings, it might help a bit.

Also, have you checked or adjusted the BISS?

Oh, and about the sputtering......Check the plug wires also.

Ok...so I went through the manual and tested a bunch of sensors today. Can't find anything fishy with them. But as for the ICS it sounded like it was wigging out. When I turned the key into the run position it was clicking erratic noise the whole time....any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

I had the same problem with my car and it was my spark plugs and wires check them out is if there anygood ,but i also have a turboed 2.0.

Pretty much every DSM I have seen goes through the ISC "clicking". Mine does it all the time, and I don't even notice it anymore. Haha.
(BTW, I know mine is good -- I test it periodically because I am paranoid). It's almost gotten to the point where I get concerned if I *don't* hear it clicking with KOEO.

If yours wasn't doing it before, but is doing it now, though, you might want to check it out - especially seeing as how the problems you've described can be directly linked to symptoms of a faulty ISC. Please check this out. A blown ISC can (and will!) take out the ISC drivers on your ECU. Which is a bad, bad, bad thing.

I checked the tps today.

Says to ohm pin 1 and 4 and look for 3500 - 6500 ohms. I hit it with my digital and it was reading .234 ohms but it is about 30 degrees outside. So would the cold account for the variance or would mean the unit is bad. If it was bad what would be the problems it would make? Oh, it did have a steady resistance change between pins 2 and 4.

Thanks

yeah dude, it's the spark plug wires, mine were acting up and i played with them, and then it worked fine when the otherday it came back so im gonna buy new one. Also if not check spark plugs and there gapping make sure there .30
