hey guys got a problem with my 97 eagle talon 420a. when i take off slowly my car sputters till i get to about 3000 rpm and then clears up until i get up about 6000 rpm it starts again!! and sometimes when i stop at a light after driving awhile it idles up to about 2500 rpm. the only thing i can think it might be is my clutch reservior went dry one day and fluid is leaking from bottom of trans where it bolts to engine...but i dont know if its my clutch slipping or if its something on the engine. any info would be greatly apreciated. thanks :D

i would check out your o2 sensor i was having the same problem with my 2g 95 gsx it would sputter on take off and would sputter when i mashed the gas i replaced the front o2 sensor and it fixed the problem. as far as the leak on your clutch slave i would get a can of brake cleaner and spray off the area on the tranny where its wet and then you should be able to pin point the leak from there wether its the line or the slave itself.

thanks i will try the 02 sensor and see if it works. on the fluid leaking out ive done what you said and its coming from inside the housing all the lines are dry, it really leaks when i drive my car harder than usual because when i stop it has blown all over my exhaust and is smoking.

i installed the O2 sensor and checked plug and plug wires all seem fine only thing i can figure is injectors or coil....??????:banghead: when hooked up to the diagnostic machine it only said its missing on cylinder #2

How did you check your o2 sensor? did you replace it?

The first thing I would do is check my plus/wires. When was the last time you replaced either? Did you gap your plugs? did you buy the proper NGK plugs?

You probably already know this but you should have NGK BPR6ES or if you're modded then the 7's/8's blah blah blah. Never the less, these are the recommended plug by most people on these forums.

The gap should be somewhere between .026 and .032 (whatever you think suits your setup best, most people I believe go with .028

Next if the plugs dont fix the issue then the wires may be the culprit. Try buying a different set of wires. Honestly just for the sake of figuring out if this is the issue, you could go with the cheapest set that your local auto store has to offer and try them out. After seeing if that was the issue i would get some NGK's or whatever floats your boat.

If that doesn't fix the issue then I would replace the O2 sensor

If that doesn't fix the issue then I would replace the coil packs

If that doesn't fix the issue then I would start crying and try to gather more information about my symptoms to figure out if its a fuel problem or still an iginition problem.

If ignition problem then the first and last thing I would look at is my ECU, check caps, traces and for corrosion.

I think I've said enough to keep you busy for a while :)

thanks, i have replaced the front O2 sensor and the plugs with the NGK's but i didnt gap them. the plug wires are fairly new. when i replaced the O2 sensor i pulled the #2 plug and put it back and my problem cleared up until my car got up to normal temp then started back again :hmm: i will try to gap the plugs tomorrow and go from their. if thats not it i think i'm getting the MSD Coil Pack.

ok guys getting very upset now cant figure out whats wrong with my car it was sputtering at low and high rpm and ive replace the coil pack, plugs (gapped to 28) and plug wires still sputtering mainly at low rpm's now tho. the coil pack helped a little but still not like it should be. :ohdamn: any info u guys could help me with would be greatly appreciated!!!!! thanks.

my car was stuttering throughout my entire rev range for awhile. turns out my timing belt cut through my cam angle sensor wires. you should check your cam angle sensor and crank angle sensor to make sure their voltages are correct. use a multimeter.
