OMG

I must say I was pleasantly surprised to have found this thread (searching your old posts, I rarely get to the hangout) I think it's amazing for you to offer this kit to us mere mortals who would have absolutely no way to obtain anything close to it otherwise.

I became increasingly excited as the pages went by, then increasingly horrified as the 5 spots filled.. Then, back to daydreaming as I see there's one spot left. Then back to horrified when I checked my bank account. Frankly I'm exhausted.

I know you've heard this countless times, but thanks man. Thanks for kicking ass in a DSM. :hellyeah:

Aw geez man I wish I had seen this thread back in Jan when I had a check for 14k in my hand. Thanks for answering my previous question about how much lower it makes the car. I have spent quite a bit of time studying it. I'm seriously impressed. I was wondering a couple of things? What is it made of? How much wider does it make the car?

Fiberglass, but you can get it made out of kevlar/fiberglass, or if you're insanely loaded carbon fiber. The $4500 price is for fiberglass. You have the option to get select pieces in different materials.

I think the rear overfenders make the car 8" wider, 4" on each side. My pieces are in a storage unit so I can't measure. Not sure about the front but I'd imagine it's around the same.

My question is what happens when you get into a accident or a piece gets broken somehow?

Are there going to be replacement parts available?

I actually really like that it's made of fiberglass. Fiberglass is infinitely repairable. Carbon fiber... Not so much unless you want to freestrand repair it with fiberglass and paint it. And like Andrew says this is a high downforce functional bodykit. Very hard to get downforce out of flexy polyurethane parts. Look at the JGTC cars this kit is modeled after; all the aero on them are all made of fiberglass, sheetmetal aluminum, Kevlar & carbon fiber. Of course carbon fiber being very high buck. I've never worked with kevlar or cf other than installing my cf hood but I have worked with fiberglass and I'd say it's easy to work with.

Good question considering this is marketed for the track.

I believe I read somewhere that he would offer replacement panels to the original buyers of the kit. Or something to that effect.

I'm pretty sure this is a sarcastic remark but shit happens, even when parked in the garage.

It wasn't sarcasm. He's implying that accidents from collisions with other cars (like in wheel to wheel) or offs into the grass/dirt/wall happen more often in racing, and so he's suggesting it's pretty likely they'd offer replacements since this is geared to the real racing crowd rather than the riceboys.

FXMD, the shop Andrew works with that produced this kit, will offer replacement pieces to the owners. I've already received one since one fender arrived damaged.

God I hope you guys are able to produce a hood that works with the stock fenders.

My only concerns with the ducts on that type (and obviously based off the scoote2) is where the ducts actually open up at under the hood. I'm just worried about having something like this on a DD car and rain or snow being an issue where the ducts open up.

I almost don't care though, I love that hood so damn much. :p

Yeah it's definitely an issue. I'm going to have the fab shop that is creating the front diffuser and mounting also create me a cover for the valve cover so water doesn't pool in there and get on my COP or in the plug wells. No idea how just yet.

For those of you pining for a version of the hood that will work for a stock body and not understanding why he won't sell it as is here is a big reason. The hood's leading edge over the bumper cover is higher by about .5, maybe .75 inches, and more forward than stock. It doesn't meet the stock bumper cover.

The fenders meet the hood pretty well actually. The bulbous shape of this hood though doesn't flow into the stock fender shape well though.

Learned that the thin framework on the edges isn't enough to support mounts for Redline Tuning hood struts. I had these on my old carbon fiber hood and simply ordered new hood mounts with rivets so I could re-use them on this new hood. I put some nice cracks in the hood frame edges underneath as I tried to close the hood with the struts in place. Ah well. I'll ask my fab shop to look at implementing some metal bracing to spread the load but I'm not sure it will help. If they can't do that I'll talk with Redline to see if they can make some much weaker struts. I read on some thread here that someone was in talks with them to do that but in his iteration they still weren't weak enough for his aftermarket hood. I really don't want to have to tote around a broomstick...

For the other guys that got this kit, if you haven't already done so I might recommend some fixing plates for the aerocatch latches. This is the second time I've gone through installing aerocatch latches and these made it soooo much easier, plus made me feel a bit better with load spreading on the delicate fiberglass hood. I've never seen these for sale in the US but found them from a store in the UK:
http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p....html?osCsid=4244397f67cff8348ddbcc984b60995e

They shipped fairly quickly and at a very reasonable rate. Overall I got my aerocathces and the fixing plates from them for muuuuch cheaper than anywhere in the US, even with the extra shipping for international.

Car's all packed up and ready to go to the fab shop to start putting this kit and some other things on.

I see what you're saying but I'm looking for a functional hood, not one that makes the front of my car appear to be seamless. There are small adjustments that can be made on how much the front bumper sticks out as well, just loosen up the (5) 10mm bolts in between the headlights and pull out a bit, then tighten them back up.

I know its not feasible for Andrew to take this on board and sell these hoods individually, it would be nice though since I know a few of us could use one. I appreciate you taking the time to take that picture and post a review about it...

:dsm:

You can fiddle with stuff and make it fit, it has been done. But we are still working on making a hood that fits normal fenders and all that. How it looks is really up to you guys to decide. We will get photos from different angles.

Small adjustments possible on the stock bumper cover aren't going to make the cover meet this hood. I wonder if your hopefulness is blinding you but it's there in the pic. You'd have to severely deform the stock cover to come forward and up this far and extend the support there out a bit even if you don't mind the deformation. Whatever floats your boat but think you're not seeing what's right there.

Its been done though. I saw this with my own eyes. The fitment was still not to our standards though. It would have to be modified in other ways but the front edge fitment was not a big issue. Places that are experienced with installing aftermarket body kits know all the tricks. The real body with all the real parts for it, fenders, front bumper has really excellent fitment. Better than the "top brand" JDM stuff IMO
