it seems like every post i read about HID's is with people that have projectors. my question is..what HID kit can i use that doesn't need projectors? it just seems like there's so many kits out there (ie: h4, h3, h7, 9006 etc...) i don't know if it's the same with mitsubishi's, but my friends civic looks almost exactly like the audi and he doesn't have projectors. does anyone out there NOT have projectors that can lend me a little insight? thanks...sorry if this is a repost. i got impatient.

You can use any HID kit that will fit(9006 low, 9005 high), but I don't recomend it. The reason people get projectors when they use HIDs, is that they have a cut off line for the light. If you put hids into your stock headlight housing, the light will scatter and blind oncoming traffic. The projectors put ALL the light where it should be. You can get Hella projectors, and mount them in you factory housings http://home.gwu.edu/~nloke/eclipsehidretro.html .I hope that link works. Otherwise, check out ebay, and get some projector headlights. Good luck.

There's much more to lighting than how big the fire is. The reflectors, or projectors are set up for a fairly narrow range of brightness. You'll probably be bucks and performance up to just go to 9005 bulbs for both high and low. It gives you a bit of punch on low beam, but not so much that the cops'll be drawn like moths. Going too high on stock reflectors will lead to hotspots and dim areas.

And, Sylvania (actually re-labeled OSRAMs) Silver Star bulbs are about the best deal in efficient lighting to be found.

I have the 9006 kit in my housings.. they work very well in terms of brightness. They do not blind people, they are aimed lower... As for the light scatter, you do see a "horn" or two "U" shapes as the light scatters because of the inside reflector. I have had many friends drive in front of me, as well as behind me to see if they do indeed blind people. They say that it isn't even close to any of the BMW SUV's etc that come at you.

I am thinking of retrofitting a set of projectors in my own headlights as well just so I can get the sharper cutoff. I wanted to get a hold of some projector lights to try to retrofit the base and make it easier on me, but I can't find anyone that has spare/broken ones for me to play with.

this is probly posted elsewhere but is it possible to put HID projectors into a 1G Talon ?

Yes, if you read the above post.. the HID you can get a retrofit kit, that just utilizes the 9006 bulb. It plugs in as if it were a regular bulb, you just need to deal with hooking up the ballast and putting it somewhere. A little bit tighter on a 1g. It could also be done on a 1ga if you had the upgrade lights that took the H4 bulb or the 9006 bulb, but it would also require a little more work.

If I drive around with my hi-beam 9005s on (I don't), everyone would flash me. It seems dangerous to mod 9005 bulbs and stick them in your mains; they were designed differently specifically so people wouldn't be blinded.

I just got some silverstar 9006s, I am going to swap out my PIAA Super Plasmas and see what the difference is. I'm hoping for an improvement, since the PIAAs look cool but don't light the road very well.
