I read that getting hid projectors retrofitted in stock 2gb headlights will cause a glare. Does anyone have a source/pictures I can look at to see this? Will the cutoff be the same in the stock vs. projector headlights? I really don't like the projector housing but one of my dream mods is to have the HID conversion done. So lmk what's up.

You REALLY want projector housing if you are going to run HID. I was running them in stock housing for a while - the light disperation is very scattered, and the glare would often cause drivers to high-beam me as I passed them (due to their being annoyed).

Aftering putting them in projector housings, not only does the light beam seem more concentrated, the cut-off is highly defined and much cleaner - more like stock HID housings. (And I dont get high-beamed any more). Do yourself a favor and get the projector housings first - they use a different bulb then stock replacement HID, so its better to get them first anwyays. (Otherwise you have to buy new bulbs).

Have fun,
-Joe

The el-cheapo 'HID kits' that just replace the bulb are a pain. They glare all over the place and in general are more of an annoyance than helpful.. especially to other drivers. Go into a dark room and shine a four-D Maglite in your face, and you'll get some idea of what you're doing to others on the road. This also can and will get you pulled over and ticketed... why most 'replacement bulb' kits are illegal, and pulled from shelves/stock less than a half-year after someone decides to put one out.

If you want HID, and you want to do it right, you'll need a HID enclosure. Usually this means projector housings, but I believe there's one reflector style arrangement on the market (for the moment).

And as a side note, having HID retrofitted does not cause glare. This means taking out your current headlight housings and putting in housings designed for a HID system. Putting in a crappy cheapo 'HID Kit' is what causes glare, and is NOT a retrofit.

Oh I know retrofitting does not cause a glare. What I was wondering is how will the affect look compared to projector headlights if I retrofitted the projector, ballasts, and bulbs in the stock 2gb headlights.

EDIT:
Thanks Omega, I read the bottom title and now I get the picture, literally. I think I'll stick with the projector headlights. :thumb:

Mercedes sometimes uses reflector style HID, but the majority out there use projectors. Which means unless you do like Omega did, you will need a projector housing.
