Hi everyone! First of all, I just wanted to say thank you for all of the information on these cars. This site is extremely helpful, and I am in debt to you all.

I am having a strange problem. The person who owned my eclipse before me pretty much ruined the pigtail to the maf sensor. The plug is broken, and the wires connecting to the plug are coming loose, to the point that my car wont run right unless I wiggle the wires the right way. Plus to add to the problem, the wires are all kinda covered in jb weld at the plug. So my question is, can I replace this whole mess with a gm maf and maf-translator? It seems like it is easier to find the maf-t setup than a replacement pigtail. Plus I would like to do some more modifications in the future. Currently my car is bone stock. 80k on the motor. Stock turbo. New timing belt. all the maintenance has been done. Plan to do some mods in the future, but for now I need to be able to get to work. So can a maf-t be set up on a stock eclipse? or will I need a safc or DSMlink?

Thank you all again. I appreciate any help. Sorry if this is a completely dumb question.

Scott

A MAFT is suppose to be used without Link, Link itself has settings for a GM MAF making the translator pretty useless if you have Link. I dont have any experience with a translator because I went with Link, but yes it can be used with a stock eclipse.

A pigtail should not be hard to find though. Either a junk yard, or I'm sure you can find someone parting out completely on this site to buy it off of.

Look for part outs in the classifieds for a pigtail. the MAF-T set-up will limit you when you want room to grow. It was great for a while, but now there are much better ways to tune.

Thank you all very much. My plan is to get in the 300 hp range. Nothing too crazy. Just want to upgrade my tired t-25 to a 16g without causing any problems. Would a gm maf and safc be sufficient for that? or even necessary at all?

Also the junkyards in my area only have N/A eclipses. :(

Thanks again guys.

Thanks. The wideband and logger are definitely on the list of future purchases. Especially before any real modifications are done. I guess my last question would be, can I set up a gm maf to function on my stock car without a wideband and a logger?

Thanks again

Thanks again. I really appreciate all of your help. I am going to do some more searching around and see what I can come up with. And I'll definitely get some type of logger before I pull the trigger on the gm maf. Sorry for all the newbish questions. Thanks for your patience. haha

Ok so I abandoned the GM maf idea. I was able to find the plug I needed locally. Now I have one more question. The previous owner had spliced a wire from pin 5 of the Maf pigtail and ran it straight to the ground terminal of the battery. The car ran fine like this until the pigtail started to fall apart. I am just wondering if anyone on here has any clue why they would need to ground that pin. Also is that causing any problems to anything else in the harness? I know if I don't ground it my car runs like crap.
Thanks again,
Scott

pin 5 on a 2G is supposed to be a ground, but it should have it's own wire that is already grounded...
Unplug the cars battery,
Then take out an ohm meter and set it to the Resistance scale, and see if the engine harness wire 5 [should be black], is showing connectivity to the negative battery terminal if it does just wire it back to a stock connector, using the wire directly to the battery is gonna make the car harder to diagnose for a mechanic later on down the road.

If your ohm meter readings are not showing any resistance the previous owner likely had a short and didn't find/fix the damaged wire so he used a jumper to the battery.

Ok that makes sense. Sounds like my next mission will be to track down that short. haha. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it!
