hi guys im new here and have a few questions about some upgrades on my 92 eagle talon tsi ,, i contatced slowboy racinf becuase there the closest place to me with an awd dyno,, and asked them what i needs to do to obtain a little over 300 wheel horse.. the guy there send me an e-mail with a bunch of parts and i think he left a few out but im not sure, everywhere i read it says i need a AFPR to run a walbro 255 pump they tole me to just put it in and that i dont need a AFPR they also told to to do 550cc injectors which i just purchased off ebay and it includes a fuel real and aftermarket regulator,,mainly wright now i just want to buy a fuel pump but im confused on what people are telling me , ,,,, other upgrades they recommended were FMIC,,,,16G turbo ,, and either a dsm link or an apexi programer,,,i already have a 3inch exhaust.. but if someone could help me with this fuel pump thing i would greatly appreciate it

According to your post, you already have an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator that you got with the fuel rail and injectors. Get yourself the Walbro 255 fuel pump along with the DSMLink if you can afford to do so. Hope this helps!

I have heard for 1g awds you dont need an afpr because of the shape of the tank or something like that. Either way im running a walbro 255 with no afpr and havent had a single problem yet.

Allow me to give you some experience with my car seeing as I ran with a bigger pump with stock fpr for quite sometime and am now running a fuelab afpr setup. Yes the car will run relatively fine without an aftermarket fpr. You WILL get horrible gas mileage and the car WILL be running very rich. This is due to the return in the stock fpr being too small to allow the extra fuel the pump provides to get back to the tank. This causes the fuel pressure in the rail to rise a conciderable amount. Aside from the horrible gas mileage you may also have problems with highway driving for long periods of time especially with any sort of boost leak....reason I say this is when I would do this before the fuelab I would have problems with my turbo/exhaust manifold "glowing" cherry red after long drives. This was due in part to the boost leak I had but also the overfueling issue. Unburnt fuel from the rich combustion process will get into the extremely hot manny/turbo and ignite in there causing the "glowing". Not good for the turbo:nono:. I installed my fuelab setup and now have way better gas mileage. More consistant boosting. And no more turbo diminishing problems like I stated above.
Another thing that can happen is whats called "Cylinder washdown". THis is when an extremely rich condition "washes" the cylinder walls of there tiny film of oil, which can potentially be detrimental to the piston rings causing a premature overhaul.

Hope this helped in what is ultimately YOUR decision.:thumb:

If you ever want more, get the 255lph. If not, you'll be purchasing a new pump once you want more out of your car.

The aftermarket fuel rail isn't needed as the stock one is fine.

Make sure the AFPR you got with the kit will work. You need one that has the ability to raise and lower pressure (some only raise). And it needs to make the fuel pressure rise at a 1:1 ratio in relation to boost. Do you happen to have a link to it?

And then you can go do some research on which management system you want to get - either SAFC/logger, DSMlink, DSmap/Jackal, etc.

I'm not familiar with on-the-rail AFPR's so if someone could chime in that has experience (or recognizes it), that'd be great. Here's the package the OP is referring to that he purchased.

Like i said ive had a 255 on my car for almost 6 months now, my fuel milage has not decreased and i have a wideband and am not running rich. I have had no problems at ALL running no afpr, and know others that will say the same thing. Listen to SBR if you dont trust others on the forum, they arent new to dsms

I have a hard time believing this. Oh well. Maybe it was just my car. But almost 60psi fuel pressure with the stock regulator sure gave me drivability issues. No need to get into though....op do what you do....run what you already purchased and go from there....being a dsm"tuner" can only be done with your own experiences playing and wrenching.

A member on here named pboglio who is making well over 300whp with a denso 150lph fuel pump and 660 injectors. In your first post it looked like you haven't bought the 255 yet, an afpr is nice to have, but you don't have to have one for your goal, a re-wired 190 will easily make 400whp.

And as for running the 255 w/out an afpr, lots of ppl have been doing it for years with no problems, but some ppl have problems right off the bat, I wouldn't run one w/out an afpr.

Well said....but if he does already have the adjustable regulator should he not go ahead and get the 255?....it couldnt hurt as it is no more expensive than a 190....just in case he were to one day decides he wants more out of the setup I figure that would be the way to go.

Sorry I didn't see that he already has an afpr, if that's the case then you are right, the 255 is the exact same price as the 190, only downside is that the pump will be louder than a 190 would be. But I'd say get a 255. And again, my bad for not seeing the afpr. Make sure it's a 1:1 rising rate regulator as snowboarder said.

intake 2nd gen airflow meter 16g boost controller walbro 195 fuel pump evo injectors evo intercoller cams apexi tuner or get somebody with a wide band dyno tuned maybe a different intake manifold
