Hi everyone.. This is the first time since owning the car (2 years) that I have pulled off the exhaust manifold and before I put in back on Id like to make sure it can stay on there for a while..

1. I dont want the wastegate to dump into the engine bay.. I want it recirculated.. is there a problem with having it rerouting it into the down pipe?

2. It looks to be a welded flange on the side of the exhaust manifold that the external waste gate hooks on to.. Is that normal, is there a better way, or is it ghetto?

3. I want to get link, but I havent identify the turbo.. serial number got wiped off by me cleaning (i checked before in the database and it wasnt on the site so its an older turbo i presume).. But i measured the inlet and outlet and based on that its a t3/t04b or t3/04e.. Do I need to take it apart further to find out any important info?

4. Am I screwed..

Sorry Im a noob..

Well, you should have taken a pic before cleaning it.. LOL. Not sure on the model of that one, but looking at the 2nd pic down, did the guy who installed it place a landmine under it just for fun? Do you notice anything wrong with the kit the way it is? if its been performing good, dont mess with it. Just give it a good cleaning.

I would check for cracks on the manifold and see if you can do a better job on the o2 housing section going to the downpipe, check for shaft play and rebuild if needed.

And yes its normal for the wastegate to be there, yes it can be recirculated back in to the down section.

well.. there wasnt any oil or anything it was rather clean when i pulled it.. I took off my old heat wrap.. degreased and polished the turbo.

I dont know about the performance.. I have nothing to compare it too.. Its on stock boost until i get link.. but is way faster than my Spec V.. LOL

My problem is heat.. Doesnt over heat but I believe the dump being where it isnt helping the cause and my be a cause of my ac problems but every time i slightly boost the ac stops blowing cold.. and my engine bay wont stay clean..

Until you get a complete dump for the wastgate it will create heat problems and a dirty bay. and possibly a better wastgate looks kinda ebayish to me? but i may be wrong.

the wastegate says EMUSA on the side.. looks to be a tial knock off to me.. but ill keep an eye out for a tial for sale..

Sorry I missed the landmine joke.. what were you referring to?

Yea its a ebay knockoff go ahead and junk that.

can you guys tell me how come the external wastegate is using a welded flange off the exhaust manifold instead of coming from right on top/next to the 02 housing (4th pic) which look just blocked off at that spot?

would this cause excessive blow back under high boost?

I cant identify the turbo in its current form.. I would have to take it apart, which I dont want to have to do being that it runs fine.. unless you guys tell me its imperative to know this information (turbine wheel measurements)..

If I remove the housings to measure do I have to have it rebuilt?

If I do what has to be removed? Im nervous because the bolts are fastened and rusted on pretty damn good.. i don't want to crack anything.. pb blasting at the moment.. but i dont know all i have room for is a 1/2 open faced wrench..

thanks again, I dont want to open a can of worms here..

You probably don't need a lot of info on the turbine. The compressor will dictate the power levels, unless the hot side is way too small. You may just want to look for the A/R of the turbine housing and not worry about taking it off to measure the wheel. The comp cover should be easy to get off and you can measure the inducer and exducer and put it back on. Use a sharpie to make sure you put it back in the right clocked position.

If it is twin scroll I don't like only gating 2 runners. It just makes me uneasy. If it was working then keep usng it. The wg not having a dump is deff giving you problems. You can poke a hole in the down pipe with a hole saw and route the gate outlet into it. There is power to be had by dumping it to the atmosphere. You can run a pipe alongside the down pipe and just let it dump somewhere away from your engine bay.

Well I figured out what turbo it is.. Turbonetics T3/T04E 46 trim with a .63 A/R on the Turbine housing.. 375 horsepower max it says.. According the the company mine is 10 years old.. (good news is it only has like 10k miles max on it and no shaft play)..

I also sprayed the exhaust manifold and wastegate high temp black ceramic (1200-2000 degrees) will heat wrap over the weekend..
