hi, my name is luis and im kinda new to this forum. I am the owner of a 97 eclipse gsx which i bought about three months ago here in jersey. Previously to this car ive owned two honda preludes, loved them but nowhere near as fast as my gsx, still great reliable cars. Here is my problem, about three weaks ago my clutch starting acting up, gears would not go in smoothly specially firsts and resverse would grind a lot. it got worse within days and since i dont know too much about these cars i took it to a mechanich friend of mine to get an idea of what the problem was. After looking at it and checking the slave and master cylinders he came to the conclusion that my pressure plate was bad so i ordered a new clutch. I got a spec stage 3 ( to support mods which include fmi, big 16g, 680 injectors, 1st gen block, evo III tranny, etc) clutch and a fidanza friction plate replacement for my fidanza flywheel. After he took the tranny down he told me it was actually the throwout bearing but he told me that my clutch was on its way also so i had everything replaced. At first everything was fine, three days later is acting up againg pretty much the same symptoms WTF:mad:. I called him and he took a look at it again and he said that now its the clutch pump. To be honest i have never heard of a clutch pump i mean i dont know what to think anymore. Please i need help with this i cant be throwing money in trial and error with this car.

after he installed the clutch did he make sure to bleed all the air out of the lines, this year dsm has a accumulator between the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder if its still there being that you have evo3 tranny.you can also recheck the clutch master cylinder along with the adjustment rod for more travel.

here's a video about our trannys from the guy who knows them. Jacks Transmissions LLC — Tech Articles scroll down to the first video and he explains proper clutch adjustment

Don't listen to that "mechanic" you take your car to, better yet don't see him again because it just sounds like hes giving you the run around. Now it can be a couple of things from what you're discribing.
1. low fluids in tranny (could be a leak by the axle seals)
2. bad slave/master cylinder
3. bad pedal adjustment
4. hydraulic leak

I would start with topping off the tranny fluid, then check the hydraulic lines for leaks, check pedal adjustment, then check the slave/master cylinders (you will see fluid leaking out of them if they are bad), and then check the pedal adjustment (refer to video). After all of that, then its something serious, but i doubt it is.

thanks for the replies, tjbiker i just finished a transmission fluid flush, used synchromesh, but still the same, ima try checking the slave and masters in a minute and ill get back with the results:hmm:

ok got back from adjusting the reservoir sensor(great video btw) it seams a lil better i also noticed some fluid from the master cylinder portion that comes out by the clutch pedal. So it seems like i will be replacing the master soon, kinda of a dumb question but with my setup with the evo III transmission and first gen block which master cylinder should i get?
