Help with Tokico blue suspension kit on fwd!

Sorry to thread jack but...I'm going threw the same problem.
I have a 96 Awd talon and I want to get the Tokico blues as well except I was thinking of going with Skunk2 Coilover sleeve kit and just ride stock height until I have a chance to buy a camber kit.
Anyone agree disagree?

I wouldn't use a Skunk2 coilover kit. I had one on an Integra and the sleeves were the biggest pieces of crap ever.

if you're gonna use a coilover kit go with the ground control setup.

And Fotown talon your getting confused LOL. The reason you have to replace the struts with eibach springs is because there stiffer than stock, not because there lower. Also It is a suspension kit it comes with springs and struts it is not just springs.

No, your both partially right. You need to upgrade the stock shocks for both a higher rate spring & with a lower drop to help re-gain some of that lost suspension travel.

Personally haven't owned the Blue setup but from what I've read from owners of both, the Blues are alright but tend to be on the soft (almost stock like) side. I'd recommend saving up a couple more bucks & going with the Tokico Illumina (their adjustable) shocks instead of the blues. These will be a better match & think you'll be happier in the long run, thats what I use to run & is a great budget setup. Both these shocks are still stock body lengthed but will work fine with the Tokico springs.

Doubleot: For a budget coilover, Ground Control is defently one to look at (would be mine & most others first choice in that price range). You can buy the direct or several of our site vendors also sell them.

Thanks a lot Daren P
How much do tokico illumina's run?

Not exactly sure as I bought mine as a kit with the Tokico springs as well. When I bought that setup around 5 years ago, I believe the price was $420ish from a vendor on Ebay (think he had JDM in his Ebay name & had lots of Tokico stuff listed), I think the last time I checked the prices have gone up abit but still something like $450-480. I would guess just the shocks would be in the $3XX range.

OP, did you ever get these installed? If so please add your comments/impressions.

I would go with the illumina's as well. when I was deciding between the two the shop told me the blues were softer so I looked around and asked people and ended up with the illuminas. one of the best 500 bucks ive spent.

Huh, so would you recommend springs over Coilovers?
I don't want to spend a crap load of money on something then decide I don't like em. Hence all my questions LOL.

Is this for me?

If so, yes I'd recommend a coilover (of course depending on what coilover, as their not all created equal) over just a lowering spring, if your budget allows for this. There are lots of good springs out there but if your able to spend abit more on a nice "budget" coilover setup such as the GC, your now able to pick your own spring rate which is a big plus (& if your serious about going around corners, normally the preferred route as most lower springs tend to be on the soft side to do this) & also set the ride height exactly how you like.

Best bang for the buck suspension setup I'd recommend is GC coilovers with Koni shocks but the Koni shocks will run you about double what the Tokico's will. The GC's with Illuminas will still be a great budget setup, if the Konis aren't in your budget (or aren't quite as concerned with best handling, like a typical daily driver that just likes to play around abit)

Lol it was for you daren, I'm thinking tokico blues with Gc coilovers since it's not my daily and I rarely drive it harshly I just want a good suspension set up.

Personally if your going that far, I'd really opt to spend the extra $100-150 & get the illumina's over the blues. I think in the long run you'd be glad you did :thumb:

hey man im running the same ones i love them deff an A+ in my book that and my kyb springs

Well i ordered tokico blue shocks without the springs and I have a few questions.

1.What are the stiffest lowering springs you can get?
2.Are megan lowering springs too low? Will I need to fix the camber in the front some how with a 2 inch drop?
3.What is the spring rates on the eibach pro kit?

Thanks alot.

1. You can order 2.5" springs in nearly any rate you want. eBay springs tend to be ridiculously stiff. You probably don't actually want the stiffest available, especially with the tokico blues. You'll have a very unbalanced setup; I doubt you'd be happy.

2. I don't know anything about the MR springs - search?? 2" is about the limit on the front. It'd be up to you whether you need or want to install a camber kit. I'm happy with a 1.5" drop without front camber correction.

3. Eiback Prokits are 330lb/in front and 160lb/in rear. These seem to work pretty well with the Tokico blue's.

thanks locke.

So you do think 2inch drop with no camber correction in the front will be okay?

And will I be able to fix the camber too the 2inch drop in the back with washers?

So the eiback prokit is actually alot stiffer than the springs that come with tokico blues?

thanks

I got these Tokicos on my car. I did all the camber correction. I think I used three washers a piece for the rear bolts and used the full Ingalls kit including the upper ball joints that are adjustable. I had to add half of another bump stop to each front strut assembly. Otherwise the top of the adjustable ball joint will hit the upper wheel well. Overall its about a 2 in drop in the front. My front bumper is 4 inches off the ground. If I could do it over again, I would go with Eibach.
