Help with flywheel bolt

Ok im awaiting the arival of my act 2600 and a new flywheel...well in the mean time i decide to take my old one off..anyways long story short i cut a gash in my forarm and a almost striped flywheel bolt can some one please give me some tips to get it off..because my totrch and angle grinder are looking apealing

Use some penetrating spray and let it soak in for a few minutes.
Then get the correct sized socket and a breaker bar to make short work of them. When you reinstall them use loctite red threadlocker.

Red is stronger.
Its for applications when you wont be removing the bolt anytime soon.
A flywheel bolt that backs out would make for a terrible day.

Yea I hope that dont happen to me. I just put my motor back in and now I get a lot of through out bearing noise. Im already mad I have to pull the tranny for a cheap ass part like that. I hope my flywheel bolts stay on.

Take a large hammer and hit the head of the bolt firmly 4-5 times. Now, drive the socket back onto the bolt and loosen it. The impact from the hammer will flatten out the rounded corners of the bolt and also break it loose most of the time.

And as far as using penetrating spay, that will not work. The only time a penetrating oil will work is if the threads are visible or it is an open hole. With the bolt tightened completely into a blind hole, there is no way for the lube to get to the threads. And they are locktited from the factory so the only way to break them free is with heat or force. Penetrating oil has no affect on threadlocker.

You should be fine as long as you torqued them correctly.
Be sure to use an oem plastic sleeved tob.

I'm sorry, tob= throw out bearing.
Get the oem one and you should be fine.

Making sure you use a 6 wall socket can make all the difference in the world. Also a good bump on the arm of the rachet with the heel of your hand a few times sometimes helps.

Or if you have an impact gun, that usually works. I had the same problem with my last flywheel bolt and it did the trick after trying to hit the wrench with a hammer and using a good bit of penetrating oil. hope this helps. good luck

ya i got three of mine off fine but my other 3 are still stuck on there and its drivin me nuts i used some liquid wrench and an impact but they still wont come off. i think it could be that my air compressor only gets to about 120 psi, but im not sure. gonna try to hit on it and use a breaker bar or something but i gotta find a way to keep the flywheel from spinning.... any suggestions.

Yep the old flat punch of the ratchet is my method. Or a long ass pole + breaker bar on crank pulley to keep engine from moving.

IM having the same problem right now well almost i just need to figure out how to get the flywheel bolts off without an impact gun. how can i lock it up without hurting anything?

Several ways have been mentioned many times, but ...

I took a piece of 1/8" stainless plate (3" x 6") and drilled some holes in it. One hole sits over a pressure plate (PP) alignment pin on the flywheel; one is used for a PP bolt into the flywheel. I stuck two long tranny bolts through larger holes at the top and finger tightened them to the block.

If you want to get fancy, weld some lengths of tube at the top to properly space it and tighten it to the block... but it isn't really necessary if you don't overtighten the top bolts and bend it.

I got all of mine off with an impact but 2 started rounding off so i couldn't get the socket to grip. I went to sears and got a set of like 5 sockets made for rounded bolts, craftsman brand. I put that on a 1/2 braker bar and they came right out first try. They are like 20 bucks for the set.

IF you want to stop your flywheel from spinning take a wrench with the right sized socket and put it on the pulley side of the crank, make sure its long enough to jam in to the side or fender whatever and when you turn it, well it will jam since you go the opposite side to unbolt.

to stop my flywheel from turning when i took it off i just put a screw driver in between the teeth on the flywheel and something hard in the engine bay. I think that's what my repair manual said to do or else i learned it on the site either way it worked good.
