help with a talon ###!

hey all, i just joined your forum tonite. ive heard about it from my friend and i had a very urgent ? that i hope at least one person if not many can answer....

....i am 17 and i am currently driving a 93 honda accord ex coupe 5sp car. the car is in good shape. i have a few mods but nothing big. heres the deal tho, my friend is selling his 92 eagle talon tsi and i luv it! when i first starting looking at cars a dealership told my mom that eclipses and talons were crappy cars and to never get one. is this true or does this dealership have no idea what they r talking about???????
i hope i can get sum honest answers from the owners of these types of cars before i sell my luved honda

Well the truth of the matter is on 10+ year old cars things start to break, its a simple fact. It also doesn't help when you start adding stupid amounts of power to these stock and aging components I would definitely reccomend them though as they are incredibly fun and with some good old tlc you should be able to get by with the occassional problem and your regular maintenence.

haha yea that is a fact of course, i recently had a local maintenance guy replace a cracked cylinder on my accord after it started leaking once i added oil past the part it leaked from

If you do regular maintenace before the power adders, then eveything should go well for you. One thing that I always check when getting a new car is to check compression. DSM's are the way to go, especally for the price you can pick one up for nowadays.

A modded dsm is alot more high maintenance than a stock one. I have a friend that owns a 2g and I cant remember the last time I have had to fix something for him. Brakes and that is about it. It is a fun car to drive. I warn you though once you start modding it you wont want to stop because these cars have so much potential. Dsm's can be a money pit. !

They just require a little extra care and they will run flawlessly, so many people do so many stupid things to them to ruin there reliability.

DSMs are great they may require more love than your honda and they do break parts more often than hondas do but they are great drivers cars and it will be a huge step up from your accord.

If you are set on buying from your buddy make sure he has taken good car of the car and that their are no major problems.
run a few basic tests and then come back to us and we can help you get a feel for what your getting into or if its worth it.

check the compression, if its burnin any oil, what do the plugs look like, does the turbo have any play, any funny sounds or resistance from the trans... stuff like that...

WTF Yea, they are complete pieces of shit... Hence the reason we all own and love them. A car will treat you just as well as you treat it.

Agree with what all has been said..... But promise you will love them. I sold mine about 2 1/2 years ago.....and just bought the same one back about 4 months ago.....missed it so much of course the g/f didn't understand but thats the small stuff we sweat around here haha

thanks you guys are awesome already!! Yea im thinking of calling a local maintenance guy to just do a quik look over it and make sure its all tip top shape. my friend has loved that car and i will do the same, to me my car is like my gf hahahaha.
