Hi ppl! I just bought a 92' talon tsi 4wd yesterday for $1750. all the mods on my profile are the ones that came with the car. the guy spun a rod bearing! but not a problem because i was already planning on putting money into this to make it my new summer car :D . i dont really want to fix the spun rod bearing, i would rather buy a 2.3L stroker kit. this is what i am looking at..

Eagle DSM 6 Bolt 4g63 2.3L Stroker Kit#-#DSM Stroker Kit#-#Engine#-#DSM Performance Parts | DSMparts.com

i am stumped though :banghead: when it come to the top end, i dont know what to buy or where to even start looking for it. please read the mods i listed and tell me what an appropriate top end would consist of and what it'd cost..if OEM parts are good/strong enough to handle 500+ HP and at least 24psi of boost then theyre welcome to. 500+hp and at least 24psi is what i want.

and another thing..chips/computer tuning. what is a good one to get, i am currently looking at this AEM ems---> Series 2 EMS for Eagle Talon 1990-1994 thanks for any help!! :thumb:

Are you going to be tuning yourself? If so, your going to want to study up on the EMS. Basically the hardest route as far as the actual tuning goes.

People have pushed the 6 bolt bottom end far beyond 500 whp. That being said I'd still rebuild with your goals. I'd also just do a 2.0 build if I were you, but I'll leave that for you to research the pros and cons.
As far as tuning goes, steer clear of the AEM EMS unless you personally have lots of experience with it. Or plan to have your car shop tuned and never ever mess with it on your own. Personally I'd go with ecmlink lite, very user friendly, and people have taken dsmlink FAR beyond your goals.

i was going to do the 2.0 but the rod bearing is spun a bit. it actually in fact is my intention to just do the 2.0, im thinking that if somethings are a little messed and needs to be bored then ill just bore to 2.3 and get that kit. On another note; if im running 500+hp will the axles be able to handle the power or snap..i want to launch it hard off the line. im just not sure if there's aftermarket axles. i have 6 months to build this thing over the winter and im have the money/time. as for the ecu managment systems ill look at the DSM, after all im no pro and i will want to do the tuning myself (i just dont want to cheap out on the engine managment system). another question, with the bottom end and the top end built nicely will i be at 500+ with the turbo.

Stock axles may hold out for a while. Get your mileage out of'm, and yes there are plenty of aftermarket axle options to drain your pocket ;) . The 2.3 really cant be reved as high as a 2.0, so going 2 liter will give you room the grow (hp wise) in the future. Top end wise, cant go wrong with kigglys bee hive springs and pick out some nice ss valves. Hell, buy a built head from the many vendors on the site. I prefer dual springs so you can run more aggresive cams and have no fear of valve float at high rpm...

You don't bore the engine to 2.3 liters. You have to use a longer stroke. You can EASILY fix that engine for 400-600 total depending on what all is wrong with it. What kind of cars have you owned and driven? Have you ever been in a turbo awd car that makes 400 horsepower?

yes ive been in a 400+ awd before. my friend had an R32 before which he did some work to so it was around 420-430. and ok i didnt know that i didnt just bore the engine, im new to all this especially rebuilding an engine. i found a forged bottom end here Eagle DSM 6 Bolt 4g63 2.0L Stroker Kit - DSM Stroker Kit - Engine - DSM Performance Parts | DSMparts.com

i like it but what should i do for top end? OEM or aftermarket? and Fejery you say the 6bolt bottom has been pushed beyond 500hp so are you saying to forget the bottom end kit and just rebuild the 6bolt i have? if theyve been pushed beyond 500 why do they seem to blow up alot? again im a newb to rebulds especially DSM as i used to drive honda/acura :ohdamn: any help is appreciated as im looking to save money and get it going asap...if you want to make fun of me go ahead just leave a link for a forged top end or something LOL.

i want a 450+ hp car/low 12 second car on pump gas with a meth kit and a garret .57 turbo. i read on another forum that the stock engine can handle this i'd just need a new cams and an intake manifold. is that true..one place quoted me at 6000 after putting the parts together and porting it and putting it in the talon....6000 for everything, parts/labour

Relax, take your time and do it yourself. The right way. You'll be pleased with the outcome. A 500 AWHP car is a solid DD. As long as it is treated correctly and build the right way you won't have any issues. Except of course the usual maintenance.

I say, do the research and do it yourself.

There is no replacement for dispalcement. It certainly can be revved as high, just the rings will wear out quicker (at higher rpms) due to the extra stress on them becuase of the poor rod/stroke ratio.

So much :banghead: The 2.3 doesn't need to revved to 9k to make power. Hell if you want to rev this piss out of an engine your still doing it wrong. You would be better off destroked.

Partially true. The first sentence is anyways. But your going to be putting stress on the piston skirts, rings, and rods revving the piss out of a 2.3.... The whole reason that you build a stroker is bump the torque curve down to lower rpms, along with increasing the displacement, thus more hp/torque across the curve. Faster turbo spool etc.

The extra stress on the cylinder walls, skirts, and rings is because of the sharper angles created by increasing the stroke and decreasing rod lengh. People in the European Honda community rev single cam 1.3L stock blocks out to 9000rpm without a problem because of the short stroke and ultra-long rods (I came from Honda's, sorry for alluding to them). Very true though when you stroke it how the power band shifts down and the torque curve become flatter and extends throughout more of the rpm range. I plan on doing a 400+ci small block build for my Mustang

Well thanks for all the opinions but nobody answered my questions. I'll try dsmforums.com now. You guys can argue amongst yourselves like children. Thanks.
