Help, problem with spark plug and piston !

Hi,

As you can see om the pictures below, I've got a serious problem with my engine.
There is a hole in the piston of the 4th cylinder.
Now I found out that the mounter used the wrong sparkplug.
He assembled a NGK BUR 5ET 10.
Can somebody tell me if the wrong type sparkplug is the cause of the hole in the piston??
If not, what else can be the cause of this problem?

I've got a Eclipse Spyder GS-T from 1998. The only upgrades I've done are:
- Greddy upperpiping with BOV
- Greddy exhaust system
- Downpipe
- K&N open air filter

Wow, i doubt using a different brand of spark plug could do this.

That was caused from a lean conditin, not a spark plug. How much boost were you running to do that? If you dont have an aftermarket boost gauge, this is the perfect example of why you should.

^ ^ ^ Yup. It wasn't from the plugs (although those aren't the right ones to run in a DSM, or at least not over here).
