I need some input on this guys.. i have read some bits of the holset threads and most importantly the holset installed results thread. but on that thread everyone has a built bottom end and crazy mods and are only a few that are runnning stock engines on holsets.. and most of them are hx40's So... My question is...

How is this setup?

-Stock Block
-Stock Head (No Porting)
-Stock Intake Manifold & T.Body

Mods:

-Hx35 7- Blade W. Bep .55 Housing
-Fp Race Manifold
-PR Tial 38mm o2 Housing
-3" Downpipe & Cutout
- Vrsf FMIC
-Kelford 272's
-Manley Springs & Retainers
- Oem Composite Gasket & Arp's
- Fidanza Gears
-Pte 880's
-Wally 255 (Unrewired Right Now.. Should I Rewire It?)
-AFPR
-GM Maft

Boost Related I Was Thinking 25 Psi.. (Since from what i've saw these turbos give good numbers at higher psi) But i am not sure if the stock engine will like that boost or it would hold up if it will give the 400whp.

PS: The goal of 400whp is on 93 octane (since i don't have e85 here) and the car is a Fwd..

Thanks & I'll Appreciate Your Help :D

Forget the composite gasket unless you want to do it twice. Get the MLS. I just blew mine last night at 33 psi on my 7-blade hx-35. And get better head studs. Those will stretch under high boost.

Almost the same build as me except a few differences. A composite headgasket should be fine for you if you are keeping the boost below 30 psi. My engine has a ported head and is using a 1st gen tb but other than that its about the same. Havent ran mine yet so cant really tell you how well the bottom end will hold other than the numerous threads on here where people have run 450 whp. I would say that it should hold up if you have a flawless tune. I am keeping my boost around 22ish. Its all in the tune.

The Boost Won't Go Past 26 Psi At The Max (I'll prob. run 24-25).... And From What I've Heard It Holds Like 28psi With Some Arp's Also Im Afraid Of Going Mls Due To Sealing problems since i don't have perfect milled smooth surfaces... but thanks for your input.. any other advice would help.. :D

I'm running a 50trim t04b since two years at 25 psi daily driver. also 91 octane gas since nothing better is available here. 10 degree of timing with a little knock. Oem composite headgasket with arp studs overtorqued by 5 ft/lbs and never had a problem with it. Currently at 400 whp

but do you guys think that the car will give 400 whp with that setup? or around it (380-399) ?

Ummm I was COMPLETELY stock block.. The head was never seperated from the block since the day it left Normal IL and I ran 24 psi with my hx35. Come on guys.. Everyone knows its all about the tune. Tune for zero knock and you will have a healthy engine. I wanted to track my car before I built my stroker but it rained every(I am dead serious) weekend for like a month and a half and I missed out. I was going for low 12s. You will be fine just don't skimp on the tuning..

I know of about 3 guys that have actually dyno'd 400 whp on completely stock block. 99gst_racer did with a 50 trim.

wow so much conflicting --and some misguided information.

Anyways I have done this more than once... on several motors.. The stock block, stock head stock intake manifold will be fine for 450+ AWHP ..just be careful while tuning and take it slow...detonation cracks the ring lands on the stock cast pistions...thats the most fatal blow you can expect.

Stock composite head gasket will work fine... Again detonation is what causes them to go.. torque the head studs to 95-105 ft/lb of tq w/ the moly lube..

I have ran the HX35 at 25 psi on 8.5:1 2g pistons w/o issue... All last year we ran TalonDave's dsm on an hx35 at 30 PSI on bone stock engine + head studs... it had 140K miles on it ---he ended up winning the B1 class at the shootout and running consistent mid 11's on that engine...

it is all in the tuning... the stock motor will do alot more than people give it credit for...

400 HP at 25 PSI should be pretty close through your FWD drivetrain... give or take 25 or so HP ... The hx35 is also a very happy turbo at 25psi and 93 octane in most cases... you can bring it up to 30+ psi on pump w/ a good tune ;-)

Ya talon dave beat me last year at the shootout.. He was slamming the brakes at the 1000 so he didn't bust LOL.. I was on the 16g and I burnt my clutch really bad causing slipping issues. Still went 12.9 with a maf-t and 680s LOL..

My apologies, I was basing my opinion on the original thread "Will my build be 400 capable" I didnt see any type of tuning software. With that being said....His car will not hold up to the 400hp mark. With tuning you are correct viper, it will hold. Without...my statement is correct.

Ok Guys Thank You For All Your Inputs.. Sorry I Forgot About The Tunning Software.. It Will Be Dsm Link V3 Lite. I'll Rewire The Pump Then.. I Will Be Happy From 385-400whp.. As Long As It's Safe...

Again Thank You For Your Tips..

PS: Also Will The PTE's 880cc Will Suffice? Or Do I Need Something Bigger ?
