:talon: i was wondering if that if you have an automatic turbo vs a manual turbo which would be faster because if the turbo keeps spooling with an auto then wouldnt u be pushing out more power??? sorry im just curious :talon:

my opinion... i think the manual would be quicker because you can shift at much higher rpms! When normally an automatic shifts at around 3500-4500, when you can redline a manual :thumb:

that's true to an extent, but i think at WOT, it shifts alot higher then 3500-4000. hell a buddy of mine drives an impala and it shifts about 6800 with an auto.

granted the manual would be faster, because like he said, you can shift yourself.

ive seen fast automatics.. however, there is less drivetrain loss in manual, a little less weight in the manuals, and more importantly to me the manual is funner to drive, breaks less, more easily upgraded and cheaper to replace or fix when broken.

though, i think the turbo does stay spooled.

ya, that's true, but on a dsm if you do WOT i think it would shift still around 5k to 6k.... not sure though because i've never had a auto dsm :) ... but i mean, if you had stuff done to it, then it would matter what was all done and I believe you can get shift kits or modify your ecu on an automatic to tell it when to shift and stuff... would be some money, but would also be sweet to be kickin' some manual turbo dsm's asses! i'de shit myself!

With a good shift kit and higher stall converter, I wouldn't doubt if the auto would beat the manual with everything else being equal. As was stated, the throttle plate is always open on an auto, keeping the turbo spooled.

I have an auto 1g GSX and i can beat most of the manuals around here. Granted i have a shitload of work done...but on power mode and with OD off you can take the auto to 6900k RPM before it shifts. IMO manuals launch better obviuosly but auto's hold their boost!

:talon: yea because with mine when i floor it the motor will redline before i shift like it will go all the way to the first line of the red before it shifts :talon:

Stock vs. Stock a manual would win by a little bit. In modified form a auto would probably win. We can power launch with full boost. It really depends. If all variables were the same then yes an auto would win in modified form. Then again when will all variables be exactly the same.

I agree for the most part. However, it seems that alot of money would have to be dumped into an auto to make it as fun to drive as a manual :p

why do u guys let the TCU shift?

I just yank it in to L redline push it up into 2 then into D, then turn OD on at the end of it

when I was shopping for my DSM I REFUSED to by an auto.. it HAD to be manual or nothing..

manual: burns less gas, holds more hp, easier and cheaper to fix, weighs less...

assumin u always spend the same money on both cars I feel the manual will always be faster

stock vs stock it's faster... (assuming ur a good driver)

the money u spent building up ur trannyto take on a manual, that equali money can get u many of the free mods and ull have more HP and putting more of that HP to the ground...

and I feel power launching on a auto seems to be more "harmful" for a car then a manual and just slipping the clutch on a manual

No one mentioned Gear ratio's either..

with the auto ur dividing over 4 gears where as the manual is 5... u can have closer ratios and stay higher in the RPM range... makes for quicker sprints

:talon: alls i know is that when i get my start stage 2 kit u all r goin down.......LOL......just playin and it kinda sucks cuz with my car i just kinda jumped on it right away because it had the bodykit and everything wich now i know that it wasnt a very good idea but whatever........i just like the fact that when i do get the kit i will b able to keep spoolin through all the gears except when i first start out........thanx for postin and lets keep this thread mooooooooooooooovvvvin :talon:
