HELP Noise!!!!!!

I am asking this on my son's 1990 Eclipse, Its AWD GSX, He is getting a low popping noise ,but now its real load and when he almost stops it grinded alittle. Any ideas???? Thanks

sounds like what my car does. sometimes when i start to go, i hear a popping noise from the rear end. when i let off the gas it rattles/grinds from back there. i just recently put in my 4-bolt rear end thinking that would get rid of it, but its still there. i also replaced all of the u-joints and that didnt fix it either. i can only assume that the rear end is bad or going out(both mine and your sons). i run redline shock proof in my diff. now and the "grinding" noise has died down some, put the popping still happens occasionaly. i hoped that helped some or at least pointed you in the right direction.
