I wanted to part this car out orginally, because it blew the timing belt twice and I pretty much given up on it. So I started to part it out pulling stuff out of it and I didn't label anything because I had no intention of putting it back together. Well that all changed recently since I couldn't bare taking her apart since it was my first dsm. I'm having trouble figuring out these things:

-Wiring harness, labeling all the plugs and putting them where they go.
-getting the engine put back in with all the stuff on the engine, which I forget how all that gets bolt on and I'm missing bolts for most of the brackets.
-I have no A/C or EVAP system I ripped all of that out orginally so I know some of the electrial will need to be zip tied or somthing
-and I want to relocate the battery to the back

can this be done without buying a parts car? and all I pretty much need help with is the wiring harness and getting the engine put back into the car and getting it started. any ideas? Thanks for the help in advance.

I have a cd shop manual (partial) and a haynes manual.

Uhm. I would suggest taking it to a shop. Not because that's what I would do, but because it's what is best for your car right now. If you can't figure out how to do that stuff yourself, I'm pretty sure there's no way anyone on here can give you step-by-steps for all those question. That's pretty much, basically asking for us to build the car for you through a computer. When you take things apart, you should probably remember where they went to some degree...

Search. Search lots.

the only thing is getting most of the stuff around the engine back on, belts, brackets and dropping it into the engine bay and what sensors that needs to be hooked up. If a shop were to put this together would I have to goto a dealership shop? and im sure it will cost me and cost me big time.

You need to find someone VERY familiar with your engine to do the work. The dealership will have people quite familiar with this car so you'd be better off there than MOST independent shops but if you can hunt down an x-dealership mechanic from either Mitsu or Eagle (chrysler) that is familiar with them then you don't have to fork over dealership money.

Other than that, it's going to be a long, uphill battle which will require lots of hunting for pictures of engine bays, wiring diagrams and vacuum diagrams to figure out how everything is routed properly.

I would NOT recomend doing any upgrades or making any changes to your set-up until you've got the car running again without ANY problems what so ever. Reason being is that you will want to know if the problems you are facing afterwards are related to missing a plug here or there or if it's a botched modification attempt. It will be hard to determine if you've gone in there and changed stuff too.

The engine block is not hard to figure out where things go. If I had a 4g63 I would take pics and post them for you, but I don't so all I can do is wish you the very best of luck.

This car doesn't have a 4G63, he's talking about a '95 N/T (420A).

I say follow Doug's advice. Without a very intimate knowledge of these cars, it'll be hard to put it all back together piece by piece. Perhaps if you study the FSM/Haynes/CAPS until your eyes bleed, you can figure it out.

Sorry, I saw his profile and it said a '90 Talon Tsi AWD. Well, if you would prefer I will take extensive pictures of my engine bay tomorrow, I can either post them or email them, your call.

Keeping things private (i.e. PM/e-mail) helps one person. Posting the pictures will help countless people. Please just abide by the 700x700 pixel limit. It makes it difficult to view pictures when they're larger than that.

Just start putting it backl togeather bro. Unless you tore the wiring harness apart it lays out where the pulgs need to go. There are very few (if any) plugs that are the same. Dont put a square peg in a round hole and you will be allright. When you have a real problem (not that this isnt) like a specific problem we are here to help. And if you need little parts here and 2gnt are the place to look. I pull pig tails once a week to send to people.

Yea sorry I have two cars the 90 Tsi AWD is the one im currently driving and the RS is in pieces..I'll get some pictures of the car. for starters I took the engine out with leaving the transmission in the car. I hate messing with ball joints and axles! do I need to remove the tranny in order to mount the engine back in? I also need to install the clutch which is a pain since its a modular clutch. I'll take pictures along the way to help other dsm tuners from a somewhat ground up install in the engine bay.

this is an older picture of what im working with: minus the block of course

You can fit the block in with out moving the tranny. I have done it a few times in the 420a. It dosent look so bad. I get confused when people talk about clutches being modular or non. Modular means one piece and non modular means you have the disk,pp, and flywheel. Or do I have it backwards. Anyway they just take work not too hard....

The modular clutch is fairly easy to install I think. Only problem is that only 3 of the 4 bolts are on the same axis so while the motor is out, bolt the clutch onto the flexplate. Make sure all 4 bolts are in. Now mark somewhere on the clutch, and flexplate so you remember which hole the clutch needs to be positioned on, in order to bolt up correctly.

Thanks buddie. I will get them mixed up again I am sure.

I did not realise how painstakingly tedious this will be to post my pictures, but it is for a good cause. I will try and give a brief description of each picture. I apologise in advance for all of the posts.

I am going to need your email, because I can't post more than one pic w/o deleting another. It says that I have exceeded my limit. Perks to being a new member I guess. Sorry for the let down guys but I either can't figure out how to post more than one pic or I don't have authorization.

Well im back on track with this project again, I ordered up a new fender from ebay and some oem bolts from satan for the fender...$1.50 a bolt thanks satan! I'm getting as much parts as I can for the evap, egr system since I ripped all of that out. I'm in the process of figuring out how it all went back together! Pictures comming soon, I plan on taking more pictures of putting stuff back together for a good reference to us 420a guys as I go along.

Would it be a hard thing to just buy another 420A and do a engine swap with the one he had in there? I mean if he was having so many problems with the engine he already had,(enough to make him rip it apart anyway)why not just get a whole new engine. Or even a front clip of the same year eclipse and just swap that engine into his car and hook everything up the same way it was hooked up in the front clip? I mean I'm still kinda new to this but couldn't this be a possibility and a easy one at that? I know when i had my honda and i was going to do a b16 swap, it was a possiblility for me to by a whole front half of a car that had the engine in it. I dont know if people do that for our cars or not but its just a thought.

The wiring harness is not too hard. Most plugs on it can only be mated up with one sensor. Which is not too difficult to figure out. If you know someone with your same car, see if you can use it as a reference as well. Then you would know exactly where stuff goes and how it is supposed to be.

It's cake...just TAKE YOUR TIME

It shouldn't be too bad the evap is the biggest thing and the vaccum hoses. the modular clutch which I never installed a modular clutch before looks like its going to be a pain. I think I have to install this with the oil pan off? because I wouldn't know how to get to the 4 bolts on the backside of the flywheel. The other thing I need pictures of is the battery terminals and the connections from the starter to the battery grounds etc.

also isn't here a line going from the throttle body to the Evap Purge solenoid? if anybody can get the pictures of the route and the solenoid itself would be a big help too.

Question, is your head still in good working order since you blew the timing. Have you had it fixed?

I sold the whole engine with head in the part out, so I will be picking up a new used 420a longblock engine or a rebuilt one.
