PLEASE help me diagnose my 2g GST it's got a bad idle In video #1 I'm pressing the gas all the way and the RPMS just don't want to climb at all.

In video 2 I've managed to get the RPMS up to 4k by waiting forever and you can hear the BOV when I left off.

Youtube link #2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pApVzLajfQQ

If I need to post any more videos/information let me know.

Car is a 95 GST 5 speed with a K&N air filter and A Greddy BOV other than that, it's stock.

I've already changed the oil and the spark plugs.

Have you done a boost leak test? Checked timing? Have a CEL light on? Is the bov adjusted properly and recirculated? And I couldn't watch the vids on my phone it just says error.

No CEL.

No boost leak test done.

I don't know shit about these turbo cars.

I'd very much appreciate a link to a couple tutorials. Or a local DSM mechanic in phoenix hit me up I'll pay you for your time.

You all should be able to view the videos if you copy + paste the link into your URL bar.

In the 2nd video you can see I got it revving alright and you can hear the blow off valve when I release the gas.

Thing is, it takes forever to get to 4k. Like literally the car is not streetable.

Once it gets to 4k it'll hit 5k quickly and back to 4k I can jump it to 5k pretty easily.

Please watch the videos guys!

Sounds like a boost leak bro. Being a turbo car the compressor side of the turbo runs into the intake and they a intercooler. These same pipes have your bov so I hope you can figure the rest out. A boost leak test is a way to see if your intake system will hold pressure or boost. This would be my first starting point in your case. Also if you can take the turbo intake off checking the turbo for shaft play is a good idea. A quick search on this site on those two test will help you along way. Maybe a mod can post some links faster than me, I have to bathe the little one LOL. O.p. any more ? Feel free to ask its only 6pm here so I'm up all night LOL well to you guys. And doesn't matter what I do your vid just says playback error.

Did a boost leak tests.. No boost leaks guys.

Also the BOV is indeed recirculating.

I think it's a fuel related issue. Look when I press the gas ALL the way down it doesn't act like I pressed the gas ALL the way down, acts like it isn't getting enough fuel and then like 'shuts itself off.'

Think I should change the fuel pump & filter?

Kid I bought the car from left it in his backyard for a long time with no gas, it was starting real rough. Think it might've got some rust in there?

If she was sitting for a while it is quite possible that fuel pump and/or the strainer on it are clogged up by gunk now. Grab a can of carb cleaner and pull the pump assembly out of the tank. Now snap the strainer off and blast it with carb cleaner. Blow out the pump as well. Press the strainer back onto the pump and shove everything back in the gas tank. Try to rev the car and see if she seems happier.

If strainer is too dirty, new ones can be had for $10-$15 at pretty much any part store. The fuel filter is pretty cheap too, but start from the back and work your way toward engine.

Have the car been running on gasoline or ethanol (E-85)?

As far as the "turkey sound" from the turbo, make sure the BOV is releasing the pressure like it's supposed to.

Yeah it's been sitting for a while.

It's running premium gasoline. Although I think the kid I bought it from may have put a bit of 87 into it :(

So a fuel filter + strainer = should do the trick? :applause:

Thanks man!

Just hope you don't have to get a new pump. Those are not cheap.

In some places E-85 has a tendency of forming nice thick crap that clogs up everything it can, including strainers and filters. However said crap dissolves pretty quickly in good clean gasoline. There is a thread about that somewhere on this forum.

I seen them go on Autozone for $200ish. Are those any good or do I need a walbro?

They look like quick installs but I'm hoping I can save a couple hundred bucks.

First make sure that the pump is what's causing issues and not something else. Then decide if you need a new one and what size. Depending on your plans for the car you might want to go with stock, or even used stock pump. Or you might want to go ahead and upgrade since you are pulling the pump out anyway.

In my experience pumps are hit-or-miss. Paid a shop over $500 to replace a pump in out truck and it went out a month later. Ordered a $60 one of internet (partsgeek, i believe) and had a friend put it in. Lasted over a year so far. Still carry a spare $0.50 pump "just in case" that came out of a truck couple years older than mine and it was factory, still operational.

Have noticed that most pumps are identical, and therefore interchangeable with each other. Might have to remove them from assembly though. Point here is if you are really on a budget, pull yours out and look at it's shape and connectors. Then go to a junk yard (where people go to scrap cars, not leave them for parting out) and find a pump that will work for your car.

Yo fuel pumps for our cars are pretty cheap and easy to find new or used. You should not be spending anywhere near $200 especially at autozone. Also very easy to change on our cars just pull up the back seat and about 15 bolts later and a few connectors and pain in the but fuel lines and your done LOL. Shoot the walbro 400 and 450 are on sale at STM for under $200! You can Easily find a new or used pump in the classifieds for around $50-100. Heck if you just need a stock working oem pump I have a bunch here ill probably never use again I even have a spare walbro 255. If you should need one pm me.
