help mating issues

Hey i just tryed mating my engine and transmission together and i found that the pilot depth on the crank is 9.29mm and the pilot on the torque converter is 18.00mm.. what gives is it not suppost to go all the way on? car is a 1997 eagle talon tsi fwd. original transmission different engine.

There is a spacer that the automatics have. I have one left over from a 1g. Is this from a manual car, the swap engine? The spacer goes in the crankshaft.
