Hello,

My name is Javier and I live in Dominican Republic. I,m looking for a 2G and they are almost non-existant here. I found one to buy but I can't seem to identify the engine. Owner said it was sold to him as a 4g63 but it doesn't look like it.

Please help, as I would like to know what engine it is before buying. As you can see on the picture it says that it's 1,800cc

Hmm.. It looks like a 4g63.. It's definitely not a 420a.

But it's a 2g. 4g64 perhaps ? I didn't think the 2g's came with n/a 63's, but that may not apply to countries other than the U.S. & that looks like a Hyundai valve cover , doesn't look like a factory DSM cover.

I don't think the 1800 on the intake represents the cc of the motor , but I could be mistaken. 1800cc wouldn't make sense for a 4g63 (1997cc), and it's not a 1.8L.

it looks like it's a n/t Hyundai motor.
it could be a 1.6 or 1.8 so get the engine code stamped on the front of the motor and google it before you jump on the deal.

Edit:I'm thinking this is the 1.8 liter 1990-1995 hyundai elantra motor, but they could have just used a 1.8 hyundai intake... which is why you should check the engine code behind the exhaust manifold.
the 1.8 engine code was a G4CN, same as mitsu 4G67

Hyundai also used a 1.6 motor, but I think it said 1600 on the intake of the 1.6 motors.
the 1.6 code was G4CR, same as mitsu 4g61

the Hyundai 2.0 code was G4CP, same as mitsu 4G63
the hyundai 2.4 code was G4CS, same as 4G64 G64B
hope this helps all you Hyundai hybrid guys out there :thumb:.

The Mitsu 1.8 has a SOHC though. I'm doing some research about the platform right now, we'll get it figured out.

That MAF setup looks funky.

Edit: Okay the only Mitsubishi Sirius motors I'm finding with a 1795cc displacement are the 4g62 (1.8) or the 4D65, and it's definitely not either of those.

I found that 2nd Gens did rarely come with a n/a 63, but only outside the states.

I'd be willing to bet this is one of those foreign n/a 4g63 2g's, the only thing that's contradicting me putting my bet on that is the 1800 on the intake. After researching I still haven't found anything about that intake. Maybe someone more familiar with the foreign-made DSMs will be able to chime in, but thus all I got.

Firstly i would like to thank everyone for researching about this. It seems to be a puzzle. Following up on Mitsubishikid's reply, when I searched for the 1995 Elantra 1.8 engine I came up with this (Picture). I think that engine has around 20 HP less.

After researching the Hyundai 1.8 DOHC , it looks identical to what's in that bay. I was unaware they made the 1.8 as a DOHC, so my apology for the misinformation.

But I don't think they put a G4GM in a Mitsu, I believe what that car has is a 4G93 , 1.8L DOHC, 1834 cc displacement.

Hmm, I know some early Evo's (1-3) came with a 1.8l and vary rare. I never seen one in person but have heard of them from multiple Evo guys in Australia.

Oh and yes they were a DOHC motor. Other then what I said I don't really know anymore about them. I think it came in a Lancer GSR in Australia.

I believe it was a 4G93 could be wrong though.

4G61 went into the Eagle Summit sedan - rare to find one these days.

Behind the power steering pump underneath No. 1 plug, is a shelf on the block that should show the model of the block. Also, right above the tranny bell housing, there is a flat section on the block should have a VIN stamped in this area.

I just looked at your picture you posted again. It could also be a 1.8L motor that came in some 6G Galant's and it did come with a DOHC motor but also very rare. And have only seen pictures of those motors in RHD models and I believe it came with that intake manifold.

The only real way to tell is check the Code on the block to confirm.

Thank You everyone. I'll let you know later on what happens :) I appreciate all the help. Looking foward to joining this community, you guys seem almost as family.

Would a 4g64 fit the 2G? I saw one on sale but don't know if it would fit and if it.could use the same tranny.

yes you can use a 2.4 4G64 block, but you need to make sure it's one of the earlier style 4G64 motors, later style 4G64 motors were flipped around like on the lancer evo 4-9.

are you planing on doing a turbo conversion?
also is the 2g eclipse awd over there or just fwd?

My plan is to have a Turbo. One of the images it shows another car with the turbo engine, he would be willing to swap engines and I would pay a difference.

But the guy selling me the car said he could also give me the OEM wing and the parts seen in the attachments such as the turbo, manifold, etc. He says he bought it with the turbo engine and somwthing went wrong and he had to change engines.

The car isn't perfect as I don't like the rims, nor the wing, nor the "ferrari" decal. Lol. He mentiones it has sun roof, cruise control And leather seats. Can this determine the model? Can this determine what version it is? Not sure if it's awd, fwd, Gtx or what LOL

Please help!
