Hi, guys

ok i had a car accident last week (a bus take me out of the road and i hit a wall) so, my car ended very damaged and i really love that car and i will fix it (i dont know how but i will)

so... mi ecu appears to be broken and maybe i need to replace it my car its a 98 2gnt in the door label says its manufactured 01/14/98 and my questions are: my ecu its a 97 or a 98?
its the 98 and 99 ecu the same?
what can happen if i try to put a AT ecu? (my car its a MT)
how can i test if my ecu its really broken?

in my country its not very common to see a DSM in the streets so i am gonna have a few problems to get parts to fix my baby:rolleyes:

the fuse box its broken also,

can i change just the fuse box?
do i have to change the complete harness wiring?

the timing belt its loosen for the crash what chances do i have of damaging my valves and head?

where is the air bags controller located?
do i have to change just the controller and the air bags?
do i have to do something else to get my airbags working back again? (they saved my life and i wanna fix them)

any help will be very apreciated

best regards

Manuel :(

Let it go thats totaled man it wouldnt be worth it. By the time you fix that you could of bought two of them

damm bro that suxs i hope and wish you the best of luck that hurts just to see the picks i can imagin how bad it is in person looks like everything might have shifted witch means theres alot that needs to be done espacialy frame work idk//if your baby means alot to you then try your best to fix it bro i wish you all the luck if not then i aggree not to spend money fixing it unless you put LOTS of money into it....

well the damage is pretty bad and it will take A LOT to fix it, but someone has to answer some questions...yes just replace your ecu do not try to put an AT ECU in there. from what i understand the pinouts of the ecu slightly differ from year to year. so it would be best and safest to get 98 ecu used or new. As for the fuse box you can just replace that. and in regards to the air bags, you will have to replace the air bags and the SRS computer is located underneath your center console. You will see it it closest to your back seat. also i think you will have to replace your air bag sensors.

there is no way that can be fixed without a donor car and alot of cutting and welding.
Look at the strut tower brace, I hate to say it but it's toast.

Shock tower is is caved in and the motor has shifted and twisted. It's totalled; irreparable.

Sorry.

A plus side is, you now have a parts car(hopefully you dont owe anything on it)

Anything is fixable by all means, but by the time you spend money on parts and labor this is going to be really costly. I would decide how much you do love this car, then decide if it would be cheaper for you to find another black 2g or fix this one. Sorry to hear for the loss :(

Well, i am going to fix it one way or another we already started but still no body answered my questions (only the air bags one)

i know its going to be a LOT of money...

help any body??

the timing belt its loosen for the crash what chances do i have of damaging my valves and head?

Safest bet is to take the head off and inspect. If you try to start it with the loose belt it is possible with the loose belt it will jump time and bend the valves.

and if i put a new timing belt back on and try to start it? what could happen?

Sorry.
Manuel, while I apprecaite your drive and determination in getting her back on her feet, the only way I could see you fixing the front end is with another clip (i.e. donor car). Are you aware of the limitations of uni-body cars? I know you are limited in your resources out there, but you will still need at least a front clip to work with.

As for the engine, you may be in more trouble than you know. If the timing belt was affected in some way with that driverside impact, there must have been something from the transmission side that made the engine lock up. Its highly unlikely that the impact alone would "knock" the timing belt off the gearing. You probably have more damage than just a loose timing belt.

You will need to pull the engine and tranny out of there and inspect for problems/breakage/cracks/lock ups.

I'm really sorry man, I know how much that car means to you. Too bad you don't live in this country. I would sell you my daily white 99 OZ just out of sympathy.

well the body its going to be finished next week because we are working very hard on it

the motor mount in the drivers side got broken and the engine touched the passengers side tower with the intake cam and that's the reason why the timing belt got loose but the cam gear appears to be fine we haven't check the cam it self

so this is no going back i am decided to fix my car and i am just looking some help from you my friends

so... any body know something about the ecu? i can get the part number

regards

Yup, I hear ya, man. You got it.

Ok, I see what you are talking about with the engine smashing into the strut tower/engine mount. Well, at this point, if the labor doesn't bother you, just reset the timing and see what happens  Check everything on the timing components very carefully for cracks and bends and rips etc. Might want to get another belt etc. at this point. I'm not sure when you did the last one.

As for the ECU; the 98 and 99 ecu's show the same pinouts. The only question that I could run into was someone "claimed" there was a difference in the #3 and #4 injectors. Here's the post; Team 2GNT Forum - Viewing topic #119309 - 99 ecu pinout slightly different than the 98' listed in home page Now that may be a typo in the listing or it may be true. As far as I know the pinouts were the same. I just wanted to give you that info; just in case

How about posting up the number on the ECU?

hey bro i know how much your DSM means to you. when my engine went. (timing belt) caused the problrm. so im gonna say 99% your valves are bent. i cried when mine went. but all honesty you would be better off getting a new one. as far as your PCM (ecu) question yes 97-99 will work but it has to be for a M/T. replace your whole wiring harness including your fuse panel. air bag impact switch should be in the bumper. under the arm rest inside is the control module for it. again im sorry for your loss but you would be better off getting a diff. one.
