Just rebuilt my 7 bolt 4g63T. Resurfaced crank, rods, caps and all new bearings. Put new oil in after rebuild and let idle and drove for a combined of maybe an hour then changed oil and filter again. Soon after second oil change top end started tapping lightly while driving, pushed clutch in and it tapped violently so I dumped the clutch and it went back to light tap. After about 1/4 mile of this light tapping IT got nasty! Shut the motor down and towed to my shop. Pulled valve cover and inspected cams, rockers, and springs-appear ok. Pulled all plug wires off coil packs and had someone turn over the motor while I listened for tapping. The motor turns smooth and the only tapping I heard was the violent arching of my coil packs. Both coil packs were arching across each other at what appeared to all at the same time. Could all the plugs firing at the same time/or out of order cause my pistons to hit my valves? or is this something totally different?

daaamn,im in a same boat dude,i still can't figure out my problem,i change new plugs ,wires, net tensioner pulley, idler pulley, new t-belt, i ctook off my oil pan, inspected the bearings ### i thought that the rod could be knocking, but everything looks awesome, and my engine got only 600 miles :(

Figured it out :barf: In no way did I think it was a rod due to the such HIGH pitch of the knock almost like a tap. Pulled oil pan .... and sure enough rod cap and nuts were in there. Looked up and seen the poor rod bent like a horseshoe. #4 rod nuts backed off and dropped the cap and bent the rod. Chilton book specs 14.5lbs torque for rod cap nuts my A$s!!! I'm gonna through in another stock rod and bearings and torque all nuts to 25-30lbs and try again. If it flies apart again i'm going 6 bolt stroker!:rocks:

Hope you figure yours out LTUDSM:dsm:

For arp rod bolts there supposed to be torqued to 43-45 lbs. 16 seems a bit to light and I believe you are suppose to use loctite.
