This is my 1st post but I have been searching thsi site alot. My daughters car had started make a lot of noise and she drove it home. It died on the highway. I thougt it was a locked up starter to the TC ring gear. It turned out to be all 4 flexhad boltshad worked loose so the TC would spin freely. I had to replace the bolts to get it running and had to cut down the 10x1.5x20 because they bottomed out. I replaced these through the misssing bell housing cover. Now that the car is running, I started it and shut it off, It sounds like the old bolts are rattleing around inside. Will I need to drop the trans and most likely replace the TC or the whole trans? It is a 92 awd auto eagle tsi. The car may not be worth fixing if it needs a new trans for $2500. Help or advice Please?

I would imaging you should be able to dig around in there with the little "magnet on a stick" retrienver thingies and geta few of them, but if there's any stuck between the Flexplate and TC you may have to loosen the bolts you put in and try and pry a little free space for them to fall out. THe only real way to know if you have to pull it is to try and get teh old bolts out IF that's what the noise is. I've enver heard a bad auto trans sound like bolts rattling around so hopefully you're in luck.
