On my way home from a 4 hour drive (about a mile from my house) the car started bucking and stalled. I was going ~35mph at the time and was at normal temps. I had the car towed home and let sit overnight. At that point the car would crank, act like it wants to turn over and would experience a loud backfire then shut down.

The only thing noticeably “wrong” with the car right before this occurred was that there would be a 2-3 second buzzing/clicking near or on the firewall when placing the ignition in koeo. If left in koeo for about 3-5 minutes the sound would start again but would be continuous until I attempt to turn the engine over or take the key out.

Connected scanner and found two error codes
- P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
- P0335: Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction

I pulled the ECU out and found I am now faced with a good news/bad news scenario:
- The good: Found out my 95 ECU is indeed EPROM
- The bad: Noticed cracking on two components on the board which resulted in a small amount of corrosion on the PCB (no leaky mess or horrible odor)

I’m currently in the process of ordering another ECU but need to know what I should be checking on to find out what caused the damage. If the codes are correct, is it possible for a malfunctioning CPS to destroy a CPU or should I be looking elsewhere? The two locations affected on the PCB are IC115 & Q101. I am hoping someone on here can tell me what the function of these two devices drive. I found this information for the 1g but couldn’t find anything for the 2g looking here, ECM Tuning forums or Ceddy’s website.

Thanks for any help!

Personally, id send the ecu away to get recapped and or cleaned.. a failing ecu can cause all kinds of odd problems. This is always my first thing i check when i get a dsm or in my case a galant. i think it cost any where from 50-XXX amount to get your ecu fixed mine looked horrible but was an easy fix and cost me 58 bucks. If you need any more info on where to get your ecu fixed pm me and i will get it for you.
