HELP: EVOIII 16G Compressor Housing on a BIG 16 Turbine Housing

Hello friends ! I need your HELP

I'm buying a rebuilt EVOIII 16G but it comes with a BIG 16 turbine housing. I am aware that it is also a 7 cm housing, but it has a different material and is a little bit heavier. Also, some say that the big 16G housing cause more boost creep, shich was corrected in the EVOIII housing.

The seller offered me the option to re-put the EVOIII 16 housing. The problem with it is that it has 2 bolts broken in it that need to be drilled out and re-tapped.

The question is: If I buy it, will I have any signifficant performance loss than a full Evo3 16g ? What should I do ?

Evo3 used nickel in the housing to allow for less weight, reduced amount of material(thinner housing thickness), less prone to cracking. The evo3 also had a larger wastgate flapper (34mm) allowing for a reduction in boos creep.

Either housing will do you just fine, just the evo3 is a revised version.

You should sell me that big 7cm housing:thumb: I need a housing for a td06 turbine.

The big 16g turbine outlet is smaller then the e316g turbine outlet. Both are 7cm and you are spot on with the difference of materials.:thumb:

I'm planning on gettinh 350whp.

if you dont think it will support you, why not port mach the outlet for the evo 3 o2 housing gasket?
 
If I were you I'd put the original evo 3 turbine housing back on, its nothing to drill out some bolts and I'm sure the turbo was tuned to use the evo 3 parts, you only have performance to lose with this setup, but if your broken down in the middle of a race and you need to get to the finish line this will work just fine... you will under spool which is better than over spool.

Why do you think I would lose performance ? The only difference that some people say is about tbe ability to control boost pressure of the twho housings.

Actually I don't know if it will support me... I still have doubts about letting the turbo with the Big 16G turbine housing...

Would I regret not asking the seller to not get the EVOIII Turbine housing back on before I buy it ? Will I lose performance ?

O.P.- You'll likely notice no difference at all in power between the two. Most 20G's use a standard 7cm turbine housing, not the Evo III housing. The Evo III housing has a larger outlet and a higher-nickel casting that is thinner than the standard 7cm housing yet doesn't crack. It's lighter and likes to eat bolts...the standard 7cm housing is heavier, doesn't have the bolt-eating issue, but tends to crack.

The larger outlet of the Evo III housing tends to result in more boost creep over the standard 7cm housing, so you're backwards on your facts there.

My only point was to not get the FULL potential of the EVOIII 16G due to the different turbine housing. I guess the main factor is for the Compressor Housing/Wheel right ?

You guys do realize that the 6 or 7cm does NOT refer to any inlet or outlet size right? Its for the A/R of the housing. A 6cm housing will spool faster but may limit your top end boost (talking 22psi +) and the 7cm housing will flow more on the top end but you will sacrifice boost. A good port job on the 6cm will eliminate about any difference for the top end while keeping the spool time low.
 
Sorry guys, it's me again... I've been reading about the O2 housing to be used with a 16G.

Most of people say it needs to be ported in order to avoid boost creep. Some people said me I will run fine with stock O2 housing...
Remembering, it's a EVOIII 16G with BIG 16G turbine housing
 
It doesnt HAVE to be ported, but porting it wont hurt. Usually boost creep is from some blockage or lack of flow. If you have a 3" DP but a stock catback, youll creep all day. The only time i ever had boost creep is when i needed to use an unported turbine housing while i waited for a new one to port and was using the stock wastegate at 7lbs (no boost controller) and it would creep to 18psi and stay there. The reason i had creep is because my ex-man and o2 were ported and i had a full 3" exhaust, but the turbine housing couldnt keep up with the flow difference. But as always YMMV.
