Just a suggestion but I had a similar problem on a different car though. My Vw starting throwing the same code/light and it ended up being my TB. That would have been the last thing I thought of but you might want to look into that.

ummm.I doubt its the TB.. more than likely you either unplugged some thing or a sensor went bad... test your TPS and CAS and MAF... there are ways to test it.. you do have a manual, right? you should test the TPS for resistance, along with the CAS and the MAF

Eug. It's painful reading this debacle of a thread. The OP had the right part in mind the whole time.
But after a month or so now, I imagine the OP has cleared this up. What were the results?
For anyone else who reads this:

There are various threads about people getting the P0300 in a 7 bolt 2g (myself included) but it is most often experienced when someone has swapped in a 6 bolt in a 2g because the ECU is expecting a similar but different signal of the 2g CASs, rather than the 1g CAS that accompanies a 6 bolt swap.

This is a picture of a 2g CAS. It cannot be installed backwards, inverted, 180* out or anything like that. The timing is not adjustable.

These are pictures of various 1g CAS. They CAN be installed 180* out and the timing is adjustable.
