Ok I just spent the last couple of days removing the balance shafts and swapping the timing belt...Now I put everything back together and I hear a loud click-click-click noise coming from the timing belt...I had a mechanic help me line up the belt but from what I understand, my timing is off. Help someone! Also, the car has NO power whatsoever...pressing the gas does little to nothing and it barely stays alive....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

To start off.....don't start it if you think your timing is off. Were ALL the timing marks lined up when the belt was put back on? First thing you need to do is take the timing cover off, use a 1/2 in drive breaker bar and line up the crank timing mark and and make sure all the timing marks are lined up(cams, balance shaft and oil pump sproket) :thumb:

I don't have any balance shafts (just removed 'em)....Before I put everything back together, I gave it the two rotations and waited for 15 min and it was still lined up.

So sorry....I knew that, that is why the timing belt was off :coy: . Are you sure the dowel pins were up and not down for 180 off?
Mike :talon:

??? I'm lost, educate me....also, I found out why my car is not gettin' any juice-MY ALTERNATOR FUSE BLEW!!! I think it happened when I was re-installing it. My Wife went to go pick me up a new 100-A fuse...HOWEVER, I don't know if that has anything to do with the clicking noise...any feedback?

Ok, pardon the noobness, I know what a dowel pin is. Which dowel pin are you talking about? And, what do you mean by up or down?

He was referring to the dowels pins on the cam gears. I believe they are around the center of the gears, these should be pointed up and all marks should be alligned. When all marks are alligned with the dowel pins up this is your top dead center (TDC). Setting it to TDC is one of the FIRST things you should have done before pulling everything off.

I had the cams lined up before working on anyhing. Exhaust cam was at 3 o'clock & intake cam at 9 o'clock...

We found that the clanking noise was coming from the lower part of the engine (thanks to some hi-tech stethoscope). There is also no oil pressure....when I hit the gas the car is hella bogged down and doesn't want to rev at alll.

OK so I just spent the last couple of days removing the balance shafts & changing the timing belt. I have the help from a mechanic (next door) so I have access so some awesome tools. OK heres the problem. I finished everything (balance shaft removal & timing belt swap) and I go to start up the car for the first time. I start it and I get a really loud clank-clank-clank-clank noise coming from the timing side. He had a stethoscope and we narrowed down the issue to the bottom end near the oil pump block assembly area. I have no oil pressure, and when I give it gas it doesn't want to rev. I'm pretty frustrated at this point and don't know where to go from here. Anybody whose removed the balance shafts and/or knows whats going on PLEASE HELP! I'm not ruling out the factor of having the timing off. I did follow the VFAQ guide very carefully and I believe that everything was installed correctly. Again, HELP!

What do you mean by re-packing the oil pump? Before I put it back together (oil pump) I slabbed a bunch of vaseline and oil (something thick enough to stay in place) to prime it for the first start up.

Heres a note of where my timing is now, notice the cams are lined up (w/dowel pins up) and the screwdriver into piston #1 notes it's at the TDC position.

Ok here may be the problem, however, the crank sprocket was in this exact position when I ripped everything apart with the dowel pin near 3 o'clock. I did mark it initially w/white out (which is gone now). Basically the cam sprocket plate mark is way off of the mark. I did rotate the crank at least six times (as instructed by VFAQ) before removing everything and, like I said, it landed at that 3 o'clock position. The oil pump sprocket is off but I figured it didn't matter since I removed that b-shaft. The GREEN dots are for alignment notes.

Yes, I did. To accommodate it, I threw in two spacers to space it out from the crank sensor plate think. I didn't know how this happened in the first place since it wasn't touching when I did the two rotations to check the tensioner gapping. Will having a bad crank sensor give me the bad vacuum, bad idle, & now power that I have???? I figure that sensor is key for timing-so it's possible.
