OK I just got my timing belt replaced today by a local mechanic and now when I rev the car past 4k it makes a weird noise. It almost sounds like a loose heat shield or something but everything seems tight. It's a 92 GSX automatic. Here are the parts that were replaced....Timing belt, balance shaft belt, hydraulic tensioner, seals, water pump and main crank pulley. It's gotta have something to do with the install because it ran perfect before hand. It still idles smooth and runs fine now other than that noise. Any help will be greatly appreciated.....Thanks

yes bring it back, and tell him to listen to it, almost 100% sure the noise is related to either a pulley or tensioner

Yes, I plan to do that tomorrow. He's a buddy of mine so I'm sure he'll fix it but I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. Do you mean a drive belt tensioner or the timing belt?

No i believe it to be timing belt tensioner related, I've heard of this before,if i'm remembering correctly its the tensioner

1fast97gsx maybe the balance shaft belt is not properly in time?

That makes sense now that I think about it.... It's almost like a vibrating noise and it only happens in the higher rpm range.

Vibrations at high rpms after an timing belt install means the oil sprocket is out of phase. I just fixed one the other day that was like that. After phasing in, the car ran smooth in any rpm range.

yup, its the balance shaft on the oil pump...theres a certain rotation it has to be on to balance out the engine. Mostly made by everyday mechanics (meant to be funny, hah)

oh yeah i dont think a pulley would make that noise....the oil sprocket off like that makes the car vibrate horribly, someitmes it tickles my feet!

Yep, that's exactly what's wrong with it!!!! I was there when he did the install and I remember him telling me that my oil pump marks weren't lined up but he said that he fixed it for me. I just assumed that he knew what he was doing. That's the only thing that he changed so that has to be it. Now my question is how are you suppose to line it up?
