Help Cleaning Engine Bay

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I did a wire tuck eliminated ac, ac lines, ac switch connector rerouted wires, lots of small things looks good lots of practice for next project, rerouted headlight wires in fender, various things like that.

A nice black spark plug cover goes a long way. I would also switch out the hoses for black hose including the rad hose.

I like what you did with the hood prop, but I prefer black :p. Just start with small things, don't get all up into taking things off to clean right now. Here is a before and after on my setup.

You'll be able to manage the same thing, but it'll take a bit more work since you have a white bay which will show dirt real easy.

If you don't use your cruise control, get a non cruise cable and you'll eliminate a couple pieces. Just routing the throttle cable under the intake manifold cleans the bay up.

But do you see what a spark plug cover did for the looks? Like Wes, don't mind the missing timing cover. I have to replace the belt since it got grooved.

Stay the #### away from armor all on the plastic stuff.

I used to armor the #### out of some shit, but I was cleaning up the current DSM since It had been sitting outside for 3 years, 2 of them parked with the previous owner.

I armor-alled the wiper cowl and some other black plastic pieces and it has faded/dryed them out terrible. I have switched to Mequire's interior cleaner as it does not need to be re-applied ever week or so to keep the interior looking great and it doesn't dry stuff out.

Still like Armor All glass cleaner, and there wheel/tire cleaner is okay.

+1 armour all is not safe on paint either.:nono:

easy on the purple power. It'll pull the clear coat off of anything and will pull the protectant finish off of aluminum. I was washing my engine bay with my buddy, walked inside, and when I came out my VC and Skunk2 im and AEM fuel setup were all faded and shit because that stuff messed it up. I beat his ass for being stupid too.

I would just like some opinions on what I could do to make my engine bay cleaner.

i would replace all the red hose/wiring with black and hide it, remove the brackets for your throttle cable and tuck it under the intake manifold ( if you can on a 2g  ) and degrease it. that will give it a much better look alone.

i understand the red theme, but all that red hosing is just .. blah.

PURPLE POWER is the sh*t!!! spray that all over the strut towers than along the framerail, im not sure if you should spray that stuff directly onto the engine itslef but some one may chime in with how to spray the motor itslef down with purple power. After you let it soak up the oil and dirt for a few minutes use a high pressure washer to wash it all off and it will make the engine bay soo much better just doing that alone=) Also get rid of the cruise control and if your only driving the car when it's nice than relocate the fusebox to underneath the passenger frame rail. You don't have to extend the harness to mount the fusebox under the rail. Good luck and post some pics when your done with the clean up

you can spray everything directly just dont soak it too much and dont let the degreaser sit too long at my detailing shop we sprayed whole engine with degreaser and then pressure washed it and its amazing how much of a difference it makes

FYI "Super Clean" is WAY better than purple problem!! Cuts grease way better, can be diluted, is biodegradable and non-toxic, doesn't seem to leave as much of the weird crusty build up s*** like the purple power does. Just my opinion though I have found it works a lot better. Undiluted it is incredibly strong so be careful. If you let it sit on anything painted me take it off. So I recommend either diluting it or being very cautious where you spray it. It's currently about $9 a gallon at Menards and Walmart, but they sell it all over. Those are just the cheapest local places I've found.
