I have a 98 non turbo that came with a big fart can muffler and crappy rigged up exhaust system when I bought it. I'm not sure what kind of muffler it is but I am pretty sure it might be blown out, its extremely loud. The car is also lowered with eibach springs and the big fat muffler always hits the ground. I want to change my entire exhaust from the cat back and eventually be able to do headers...

What I am looking for here is advice of what system I should buy. I am not into the loud rice burner fart can import sound, but instead am looking for a slightly deeper, quieter exhaust, with good ground clearence.

Any help is appreciated, along with any sound clips you know of.....

I got a universal 2.5" Megan racing muffler off of Ebay a long time ago,(when Megan was fairly new) and the piping from the cat from a muffler shop. I'm content with my set-up. I recommend going that route.

Greddy is one of the quietest aftermarket, yet performance enhancing exhausts, but kind of pricey.

You might want to look into a stock gst exhaust and a high-flow cat. From your post That sounds like something you would like.

I was looking to get a Tsudo exhaust, which you might want to look into if you're on a budget. As for sound clips, just go to youtube, and search for Tsudo. I would rather get the Greddy, but like 4UH8ERS said, it's a bit pricey.

I would post a sound clip but it's actually a video of a prank my buddies pulled on me when we were hooking up my turbo kit. They wired my horn up to my brakes..

When I posted this in the hangout it was closed because according to Defiant " a man shouldn't f**k with another man's car.." Well, best friends since birth is an exception ..

You can clearly hear my exhaust and BOV in the cip though..
If Paul allows it I will post it.

i just bought a muffler i liked that looked like it wouldnt be ricey and i took that to my exhaust shop. had my entire exhaust upgraded to 2.5" piping. cost me like 300$ plus like $30 for the ebay muffler. Im very happy with the sound. throw on some headers and its still cheaper than the Greddy exhaust. (ebay headers of course). i know my exhaust will eventually rust from damn road salt but not for quite awhile. Oh, and get rid of those springs.... unless the guy before you bought shocks to go with those then your going to end up replacing all four shocks/struts

Haha... that's hilarious.

I'll let you post it if it's for educational purposes. :sneaky:

Baffled mufflers like Flowmaster, Hooker, and OE are usually the smoothest sounding.

I like my 3 inch tsudo for you obviously the recommendation would be 2.5 inch. It's a bit loud, but that is without the silencer in. Also, it is not high pitched and whiny like the bumble bee exhausts on hondas.

Also, if you can find one, the 5zigen is incredibly quiet like stock quiet

4UH8ERS,

I was thinking going with a stock muffler might be what I want, but I figured since I would have to buy a new stock muffler, I might as well buy aftermarket. Regardless of what I do I will look into buying a high flow cat, that seems to be what everyone is saying in all the searches I made. Any good semi-cheap brands to look for?

Also, where should I look online for the best prices when I decide to buy my parts?

If you are looking at a cat-back, tsudo is a great price for the quality the 3 inch is just over 300 shipped to your door if I remember correctly the 2.5 inch is somewhere around 250 shipped.

yeah i just got my tsudo from ebay for like 250 shipped and i love it. i got a header too . but the exhause sounds amazing. i love the deep throaty sounding exhaust and this one is way better than i imagined. i highly recommend

Used gst complete cat-backs are easy to come by when people part out cars. Just look for a part-out down south here, where salt is not an issue. They are also relatively cheap used.

If you do want to go with a cheaper aftermarket exhaust, such as the recommended tsudo version then always check places like ebay first, then compare vendor prices to them. If you can find a vendor as cheap as ebay then support your local vendors if possible. (you local vendor can help you if you have a problem, where an ebay representative may be half the country away.)

Just listen to my car in this video. You can get an idea of what it sounds like.

Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIGj70rJcHg

BTW, they made an alternate switch to activate the horn when I used my brakes, or leave it unactivated. So, I had NO idea what was going on. One second the horn would blast and the next it wouldnt.. Sneaky, sneaky..

dang-it. you tube and my space are restricted sites at my work. can you send me a a direct download or something so i can watch it. im really bored LOL.

i didn't want the loud weed eater sound so i was going to go with greddy, magnaflo, or flowmaster. because i knew that they were low rumble sounding. so i was looking for a price and i saw a guy with a totalled gs-t with a greddy sp-2 exhaust on ebay for 250 so i jumped on it. it sounds really nice. low rumble baby.:thumb:

nice find! mine annoys the crap out of me especially with the new motor now. I have a Tsudo N1, Apexi knock off.... so now I'm looking at buying the biggest resonator I can fit and have it welded in to quiet it down to just a deep rumble. I'm hoping this one fits, it's 18" long and 4" in diameter... that's quite possibly more area than my muffler.

^ let me elaborate on that since others may search hear in the future and think the Tsudo is a bad choice. No, it's great, full SS and it only cost me $230 shipped. With my header it sounds very good, but now I've got the howell stroker in it (more displacement, lots of head work including port/polish/cams/valve job, etc) and when I get on it it's just louder than I'd like it to be. Sounds great, just too loud, and on the highway after a couple hours it starts to bother me. So that's why I want a resonator, not because it sounds like a riced out civic.

and to Blitzeclips, did you make your triple guage pod that's above your center vents??? I've been planning on trying to make my own custom triple pod (for when I go turbo) just like that to go above the vents rather than on the pillar. You're the first person I've seen who has them up there on the dash, exactly what I wanted to do - did you buy it or make it?

and maybe tomorrow I can take a vid of my car so you can hear how my exhaust sounds with the Tsudo.

Yeah my greddy kit came with the resenator (spelling sucks) real nice. My boy had a magnaflo on his VW Golf and it might have been lower. There is a web site that sells magnaflo for 343 shipped. That was the best I found but that was like 2 years ago.
