So i just had my transmission rebuilt by English Racing in Camas, WA about 3-4 months ago. Transmission has maybe 3k miles on it and I was driving today and dropped to 4th gear cause traffic slowed down and pop, car revs like its in neutral. I stop and pull over to see if anything bad has happened. Cant see or hear any issues. Car idles just fine and drives perfectly fine in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and Reverse. The transmission feels like it shifts into 4th gear, no grinding or anything and isn't easy like no gear is there. When it is in 4th i can pop the clutch in and out just like i would in neutral with nothing happening. What the hell has happened, this was supposed to be a fresh rebuild. Im only making like 300whp at the wheels right now due to a HG issue so i am stumped. What is broken, why did it brake, and what kind of recourse should i be taking?

Check your shifter cables and shift cable bracketry and retention clips, along with the center counsel shifter assembly as well as making sure the shift lever assembly is not hitting anything in the engine bay for 4th gear. 4th is the main shift lever in the neutral position and shifting the lever towards the firewall on the trans.

If these items are all checked, there is a potential that you broke a 3/4 shift fork, but normally when you break the base of the fork you cannot shift into 3rd but have 4th. It could be a broken shift cable or a broken finger on the 3/4 shift rail end inside the trans, or a broken finger in the 3/4 fork inside the trans.

Check your cables and bracketry first. Then disconnect the shifter cables on the trans with the car off, manually shift the transmission into 4th, push clutch in, turn on car, let clutch out. If it doesn't go anywhere you know it is transmission internal issues of a shift rail or shift fork or you unknowingly stripped 4th.

I don't think it is cable related, it made a spinning sound for awhile coming form directly under the driveshaft area, sounded like the transfer case or something. The shifter bushings were just replaced like 1k ago with metal bushings, everything was checked then and looks the same now, It goes into every gear fine, i can feel it go into gear, but when i let out the clutch in 4th, its like its in neutral. Ill go double check everything else one more time but its not the linkage i am sure of that.

If you have 2nd reverse & still have 3rd it really sounds like 4th gear is just broken from the deception above.

I would pull the plug on the transmission and see if you get any teeth.

What fluid were you running?

Lucas can 4th brake that easily? Not under hardly any load. I am using syncromesh and did a drain and fill at about 800 miles in case there was any fragments from the rebuild. I haven't drained yet but will first thing in the AM. What am I looking at doing from here? This was 2500 dollars about 3 months ago.

For a car that has made over 400tq syncromesh is way to thin. My guess is that it was chipped from a pull and then finally broke all the way during driving.

E85 16g TQ is hard on Transmission.

We run the EVO 6spd DiaQueen or NEO RHD in higher hp/TQ DSM transmission. Syncromesh and redline MTL type fluids are way to thin.

It will you slide it all the way into 4th right? Just seem like neutral. Asking if you locks you out. I would say if you herd or felt any chunky feeling its more then likely broke.
