Help! Broken bolt in turbo oil drain big 16G

Got back into the DSM game this week after being out for 5 years. Picked up a project car, a '93 Talon AWD. Biggest problem so far I ran into was a broken bolt on the oil drain line on the turbo. Tried an easy out but it wouldnt budge, so i drilled the bolt out and ran a 6mm tap in it. Well I'm not real happy with the results, if this thing lets go while I'm driving its bye-bye JDM 6 bolt. So I ordered a 6mm Heli-Coil set and will try to fix it that way. Has anyone tried to do this? What materical is the turbo center section made of? cast steel? cast iron? I'm wondering how hard its gonna be to drill. I hate to throw away a perfectly good big 16g. :banghead:
 
The helicoil should work fine for you. I have used them for rocker arms on american engines. They are fairly strong. And there is no stress on that bolt in the first place so it should be all dandy.
 
Agreed, It will be fine. I would just use some loc-tite on the helicoil when you put it in and let it dry for a couple minutes before putting the bolt in.
 
Oh i use Heli-coils all the time, i was just wondering how the material of the turbo center section will be to drill and tap. If its cast iron it may be a nightmare, but I'll let you know how it goes. As a bonus those 6mm Heli-coils will come in handy if i have any threads messed up in the bolt holes in the head for the valve cover.
