I ended up purchasing a 98 gst with 90k miles yesterday and when test driving it there seemed to be little to no smoke. Well got it home and have been driving only minimal since and it seems to have a lot of blue smoke coming out. Now I am mechanically inclined to a point but can easily understand and learn how to do things just by reading. Well I took it to get a full oil change today and then the mechanic brought me under the car to see what was wrong. From there it just looked like a lot of oil all over the underneath of the engine (closer towards the turbo side) more so i believe the turbo oil return line looked crappy patched (with some goo stuff) now this is the best way to describe it by pulling it off of someone elses thread on here
Does the car smoke constantly or does it smoke more during the first startup in the morning after sitting overnight?
when first started very little smoke comes out, then eventually driving it turns to a pretty good blue smoke when just driving or even heavier when turbo is spooling
How much smoke are we talking about and does the amount of smoke decrease, increase or stay the same as the engine warms up?
smoke becomes heavier as the engine warms up and its driven
If you haven't already said so, what color is the smoke- white, white-blue, black? bluish (definitely from oil burning)
What does the smoke smell like- new oil, burnt oil or even a little sweet?
burnt oil (mechanic basically showed me it was leaking a lot of oil)
Do you have an automatic or manual transmission?
manual
I was just possibly looking for a little help before I become deeper involved in the car, Appreciate it
Thanks!
edit:id be happy to explain anything further to anyone, sorry if I sound newbish...just trying to learn!
