1G Help. All running lights won't stop flashing!

So, 91 Eclipse GSX. The car will start and run fine. But as soon as you click the key on, all running and dash lights will flash.(not the head lights tho) Shut the car off and take the key out, and the running lights continue to flash for about 30 seconds or so then shut off completely.
Now, with the car running, I noticed if I turn the headlights on, the running lights quit flashing and just stay on. But then when I turn the lights off, the continue to flash.


I checked the battery ground and engine to chassis ground, less than .1 ohm.

Anyone have any ideas?

Just thought to myself, maybe the battery voltage is still too low, so I just walked out to check with my voltmeter.
12.23 volts.
Which is considered low... But shouldn't have a dead cell.
Im going to throw it back on the charger for a bit.

12 volts while running or off. Battery is 13 volts. Idk abiut these cars if they are any different than others. But my other car would show 14.6 volts running which was considered perfect

See if you have Any voltage drop between your Cables and battery posts

And do a 2 amp charge t till the battery if fully charged

My car running does 14.2 volts cruisen

When I turn the laser off I get 13.5 v ish

Like I said tho crazy sh*t happens when voltage drops low

My 90 started flashing the headlights without them being on the other day. I simply unhooked the battery for a minute and hooked it back up and viola, it quit and I don't have any stinking factory alarm either. Anyway, that's how I "fixed" mine.

Was it the "headlights only"? Cause mine is flashing the parking lights only, not the headlights.

I've thoroughly checked and cleaned the battery terminals and ground wires.
No idea where to go from here.

That's insane ! There's gotta be an alarm in there that you don't know about because power should be completely cut at around 5 seconds (mpi relay) after you turn the key to off.
Something's controlling those lights

First do you hear any relays ?
Second turn the 4 ways on and see if it's in sink with the lights

Third what in the h$ll did you do to this thing?
This makes no sense ,my battery's caused some funky things but never something like this ,

If you already looked under the dash and made sure nothings there like an alarm ,
then you've got power being applied when it shouldn't. (obv)

Look at your ignition wiring it's a blue and black plug, what do you see? Is it hacked?

I'm wondering if the "right" wire made a connection to your lights from a relay like the hazards but again that would be insane and make zero sense

Take pictures under the dash with the bottom cover under the wheel off I'll compare it to mine

There's a wire under the dash I used to make everything flash like that for my alarm I wrote it down actually I'll try to find it

What happens when you dim the lights ?

What happens when u pull relays relating to lights ?


Sorry I did a lot of guess work and speculation here
Electrical gremlins can be very difficult to diagnose in person and we'll over the computer is 100x harder

If I were you I literally would grab a digital multimeter and just goto town probing things

I just thought of something bare with me..

So what if when the battery died what ever "alarm" that could be in there reset and now it just goes off when you turn the car on??

Is there a hood pin switch under the hood ?

No other way for your lights to be doing that except aftermarket alarm system as follows

You've got
Constant 12volt---->module(alarm)----->light circuit



if I set my alarm off on my remote my car does the same thing driveing or not

ok, you convinced me. I JUST looked deep under the dash, found 2 wires not looking so factory. Dropped the knee panel, boom, aftermarket alarm, installed nicely tucked out of view.
It has a button and a light. I haven't tinkered with it yet, but I'm confident I'll get it sorted out.

I was told "never modified, fully stock" by the original owner, no key fobs or mention of an aftermarket alarm. And when originally looking up under the dash, at first glance, there was no obvious sign of an aftermarket alarm. And since it would run and drive fine, I figured most alarms disable cars from starting, so "it couldn't be an alarm if it runs and drives?".... Haha!

All is well and all fixed. There was 2 fuses. The first one I pulled solved the light issue. I then went to start the car again, sweet still starts, checked lights, sweet they still work.
I pulled the other, started the car, chevked lights.
I pulled the big plug, started the car, checked lights.
I pulled the little plug, started the car, checked lights.

So yeah. In conclusion, aftermarket alarm problems. Hehe...
I screwed myself a couple ways here.
I jumped to the conclusion that I "knew" it didnt have an alarm. And I had just fixed another issue I had wrestled with for awhile, thus being frustrated and not really wanting to work on the Eclipse, dreading a possible eletrical problem. I also cussed at it a lot and called it a lot of bad names and told it how much I loved my other cars better, which I'm also sorry for.

I guess I'll reup the registeration and go drive it.

As in most cases with DSMs the problem is...the owner! In your case the previous one...glad you figured it out.

I had this same problem when the battery died on mine but I found out there was a factory alarm on my car that was going off so since I didn't have a remote I looked under the dash and a little a bit ways up i found a alarm box and Un plugged it and my car has never done that since so see if u can see the box it will be above the fuse a little high up
