Help a newb...

Hey all, I just got my gsx about a week ago. Got it from a dealership and it has some mods done to it already... they didn't know what though, so I'm not sure what I have under the hood completely...

First question... Any tips on what i should look for under the hood? I think there is a 16g turbo in there, and an exhaust... what size or how far up it goes i don't know... but anything else... i don't really know what to look for

Second question... my CEL is on. I had it checked at the local autozone and it said "MAF or VAF circuit error." How would i go about fixing this?

Third... i think i'm running rich... the car backfired a lot when i was driving it around the first couple of days, but it hasn't for the last 2-3 days. I don't know if it was just because i just started learning how to drive stick and now i'm getting the hang of it? I also read on here a few days ago that the 2g maf needs some driving time to recalculate things... is this true? because then would the dealership just having put an air filter on just before i picked it up have anything to do with it?

I was also told to check for boost leaks because it seemed like i was having massive turbo lag and was running rich. But i haven't really been feeling as much lag as i was when i first drove the car. If i have a boost leak... would i be able to hear it while driving? if so... what does it sound like... just escaping air?

Check and make sure that you maf sensor is plugged in. You said they replaced the filter and all the symptoms you describe would be from the mass not working. Just in case you don't know what that is go to vfaq.com and look under intake.

looks like a 1g bov and uicp and also looks like a new turbo mayb bigger i can't see it very well but still great stuff so far. your lucky man

Perhaps he once had an SAFC, and he yanked it before it sold it? This might be the reason the car is running rough (get a pic of the fuel injectors so we can see what size they are)/

Except for that spark plug tray, either that thing is in need of a serious cleaning or you've got a bad leak. It appears to have a Dejon UICP and TB elbow with a 1G bov. The turbo is a TD05 but without pulling the intake off and looking at the compressor wheel it's impossible to tell which one.

Here's a closer picture of the turbo... kinda blurry and stuff in the way... but it was all i could do...

And still like I said, it's a TD05 turbo but it's impossible to tell which one without looking at the compressor wheel. It may be a 14b, 16g, Big 16g, Evo 16g, 18g, or a Frankenstein turbo.
