Well i was running my car on 17lbs and i noticed some weird noise at first i think, the boost gauge dropped like 5lbs but went back so i stop running it hard.I got back to my friends house and when i start it smokes like a dam house on fire like it will smoke out the area and inside the car if i boost it.I did a compression check after i got the car warm and it was 160 all the way across oil is clear of coolant and vice versa it does have smoke coming out the oil cap... so can it be my turbo blew? :( :sosad: Btw turbo has about 184k its all original.

Edit: Just to clarify no my dipstick doesn't pop out it doesn't run hot and the stock oil pressure gauge is reading that its all good. its blueish white most of the time it looks white when i get on it you can see a blueish tint. :talon:

the turbo blowing is a good possibility..especially with the downfall in boost after hitting it hard. Check all the oil lines routing to the turbo, and all the seals. Then if your car is super slow then you may need a new turbo :nono:

To see if it's your turbo, take the intake pipe off and see if there's a lot of shaft play on the turbo. If there is, your bearings are shot and the turbo needs to be replaced. When mine did this, I got large amounts of smoke out the exhaust, but none in the cabin, and none out the oil cap. But checking the turbo is one way of ruling out what could be a major problem.

That is definitely the symptoms of a blown turbo. The smoke in the cabin could be from an exhaust leak somewhere and it is just sneaking in there. Shaft play is the easiest way to tell. And with it being as bad as you say I'm guess that it will wiggle around in there a lot. Not much of a big deal. What turbo were you running? A 14b or T25? A 14b would have been ok at 17 psi but no way would a T25 have been ok. But with the miles that are on it I'd say it lasted a lot longer than some.

Wanna make a bet? Pull off the LICP. I betcha if you stand under it when you do it with your mouth open you'll drown. So don't really take it off while standing under it with your mouth open.
But I would definately put a catch pan under the LICP when you take it off. You're going to have a ton of oil pour out.

OH YEAH!! I almost forgot about that!!! LOL. I was so suprised when I took off that hose and about quart of oil came gushing out. That's something to watch out for when changing a blown turbo, to be sure.

Thanks for the advice guys, is it possible it can be anything else really ? motor wise if it sounds normal and fluids are clear so is compression. :talon:

Im gonna remove the lower intercooler pipe in a few days :coy:

it sounds like the turbo. My friend Marlon told me that if you hear a sound like a SCREAMING cat under your hood and your not boosting anymore, you just blew the turbo.

it still builds boost, i haven't stayed on it longer then like a second or two cause i will smoke out the entire street. :(

Yeah, I remember that. I clouded up two lanes of traffic on my daily commute to work. I'm pretty sure that cold startups and not letting it warm up enough caused some kind of oil shortage or lubrication shortage killed the bearings. It happened to me in spring. I noticed that as the problem got worse, my maximum boost would drop, though. A few nights before it died, it would boost to 6 or 7 and no higher, then it would boost to 0. The night I brought it home and shut it off, I heard the scraping sound of fins on housing. :)

This defnitely sounds like a dead turbo. If you are boosting a 14b with 184k original miles on it to 17lbs, no wonder its dead. I didn't even realize that a stock turbo could last that long =) Alot of times the 14b turbo dies at around 100k-140k range depending on how it was treated

Aleast i know the old owner didn't beat on it :D :p

Happened to my buddy (i was driving behind him) 2 seconds later I cannot see his car, just smoke, turned out his headgasket went by by... but you said your compression is good , so im a failure..

Until Next Time...
Andrew
