I'm putting in my head unit this weekend, I was curious to see if anyone had pictures of custom jobs that they've done with theirs. I could just go by a kit from Pep Boys or some auto store, but I wanted to try something different this time. I'd like to see pics of yours if you don't mind. Thanks.

wow, that looks really good, I already put mine in today. It's nothing really custom or exciting but it looks really clean. thanks for the pics for future ideas. I never get tired of seeing clean DSM's like yours.

well let me get started then thanks for all the praise as well but

my sun cover was reupholstered since those pics i used black vinyl same as used for the stereo so it looks nice now :thumb:

the actual radio unit is behind the 7 inch screen that is where the stock radio would be. the stock radio mounts were cut in half so that the "brain" as we will call it can sit far back with enough room to clear the screen attached to the radio panel.

as far how i was able to do it you need to match the gold prongs or connectors that line up when you attach the face(this is what allows for communication between the face and unit. you solder one wire on the brain then solder the other end to its correspondent on the face. i used ribbon cable from a local computer shop. your soldering skills need to be tight and precise cause if any solder gets on the other prongs the system will not work. my step father is an electrical engineer so he did that for me since my skills aren;t up to par yet.

the face is attached to a thin piece of sheet metal which holds under pressure from the sunroof trim(cant see it at all) and wire bundle ran down the side.

unfortionately the cd that was left in there is permanently stuck cause the unit still thinks the face is attached so it wont eject it but i just did some coverboards with a cd changer which i will post pics right after this. i dont know if this will work for every radio so dont jump on it yet but i have seen it done a few times in magazines and older hotrod cars. any other questions let me know thanks again.

i put my head unit in my center vent. had to rip out the whole dash to do it.
