head removal: 11mm allen wrench

I hear the allen wrench size to take off a 4G63 head is 11mm. Is this true? Where can I find an 11mm allen wrench? I've looked everywhere!

Try your local auto parts store. I bought mine from Sears(craftsmen) in case it breaks I can take it back. I couldn't find a 1/2" version though so I settled for the 3/8". It worked for me but for some odd reason the head bolts weren't on there all that tight.

It's 10mm; at least that's what both of my engines were when I replaced the head gaskets.

its 10mm and you can go to autozone to get a set of allen head sockets

2G's are NOT NOT NOT 10mm. Sears has them.

so 1g's are 10mm and 2g's are something different (possibly 11mm). Sears doesn't carry 11mm, I've been there. Neither does: Menards, Advanced Auto Parts, Ace Hardware, everywhere else I've checked. But 1g's are definately 10mm right?

my mistake for not catching the 2g bit, 1g stock bolts are 10mm.

We pulled the head out of a 90 Laser last week and I'm 99% sure it required a 10mm allen wrench. (If it wasnt 10mm, it was 11mm) The guy that helped me owns a 2G and said his head bolts required a socket.... I have a full set of the head bolts at home including the allen wrench we used, I'll check in a couple of hours....

The reason all of you are confused is that the 6 bolt motor uses allens, and the 7 bolt motor uses the 12mm socket. Thats why you are getting mixed answers.

^^ahha! Makes sence now. When someone said 2Gs needed a 11mm allen head, that was what threw me way off.

but 2g stock head bolts require the 12pt 12mm socket. 2g ARP stud sets require a 6pt 12mm socket for anyone who'd like to know.
