I need some ideas from someone on how to remove this 4th bolt on my crank pulley, the head of the bolt is stripped from the previous owner and i can't get a socket to not just spin around it. It sticks a little but any pressure just makes it spin around the bolt. Does anyone have any ideas. This is on a 90 talon.

I shouldn'n have even posted this I'm sorry I have the sockets for stripped bolts right here but i was so frustrated I wasnt thinking about them. So lesson from this thread is keep a cool head and in the end you could quite possibly make less work for yourself. That will be 5$

I have a set of Craftsman bolt extractors, that bite into the outside of a bolt's head or nut. Tap it on with a hammer and use a large wrench to turn the tool. Works pretty good, most of the time for me.

Other options I have tried is drilling a small hole through the bolt head, similar to safety wiring. Then use an awl to turn the bolt through the hole. Probably wouldn't work in this situation, but worth remembering for when it will work.

I have re-shaped bolt heads to use a smaller wrench, or notched it for a screw driver in the past as well.

There have been occasions when I would but a nut splitter on the bolt head, bite deeply into it, and use the splitter like a wrench.

Then there is grinding the bolt's head off, removing part, and extracting cut bolt. (or boring and re-tapping)

There is always the locking pliers, if you're lucky.

I went to O reillys and got the Irwin bolt-grip sockets, they have like a spiral center that grabs bolts that are rusted, shaved, or the heads are just plain stripped off. took all of three seconds with those. I used the 13mm socket for the 12mm bolt and a 1/2 bolt as they're very similar in size so you dont have to get exact bolt sizes with these sockets just be ready to pay a pretty penny for them.
