My buddy just tore his whole engine down after 200 miles for some gawd awful reason... he has the 200$ hks metal HG in his talon polk machines said I could re-use this gasket if I wanted to this sound safe? I bought it for 40$

It is depends on what kind of power he put down and if he is a wild driver and evidentially what limits you want to take it to. But I'd recommend getting a Cometic HG for $90 which is just a reliable as HKS.

he had it on 8 psi the entire time. I just want it for a stock re-placement I need it to get my engine going.:rocks:

sounds okay but i agree with 1gdsm4g63 cometic makes an AWESOME HG, especially for $90. also 4 layer steel. but if you do decided to use the HKS unit make sure you get your head surfaced so it is super flat. i can't stress that enough

Most machinist's aren't able to get the head surface smooth enough for a metal headgasket. I think you're probably going to have issues with it sealing properly.

I would never re-use a head gasket once it's been torqued.

So, there you are. My reasoning is that getting to the gasket is no small task on a DSM. The cost of a gasket in comparison to the work you're risking with the "shortcut" just doesn't work out, for me.
