I just installed my new head gasket, The person I talked to at autozone told me the torque on the head was 37 pounds :ohdamn: which is way off from what my manuals now tell me. I started it up before I bought the manual and it was pouring out pure white smoke out of the exhaust:cry:. What are the chances I blew the new head gasket again or do I just need to go back in and torque the head bolts down a litte more? I had the car on for maybe 30 seconds.

I would but I've been doing it in my parking spot at my apt, I've been lucky enough to pull the head off and reinstall it after the machine shop milled it with out being caught. I'll putt the valve cover off tomorrow and re-torque it down then check compression. The only good thing to come from this is both the head gasket and head bolts have a 1 year warranty just in case.

Go to the walmart parking lot, they promote solicitators!! LOL. But the best thing to do is to replace the headgasket. If you have arp headstuds then remember they need to be torqued tighter than normal. also make sure your block is completely clean from the old head gasket and its not scored anywhere, then when its all back together do a leak down test just to be on the safe side before you put antifreeze back in. Then you will know everything is sealed up before you start flowing water threw the engine

They really are, today I taught one that MLS means multi layered steel! I was like WTF!! dude you wok at a parts store, you should know this!

hahaha! You have to love the guys at autozone :aha: LOL. I would tighten down that head to the actual specs. Then start her back up and let us know how you make out.

Ehhh not really... Thats impossible to know evrything; even if you work at a parts store.

I hate it when people think that just because you work at a certain place you are suppose to automatically know evrything. Even people that have been in a proffession for years don't know "evrything".

Well I use to work for the autozone I went to only now they won't let me use the computers, cause I told my boss to F__K off an eat a D__K I was having a bad day. Anyways just got done re torquing ( in a tornado warning) and checking everything after a 20min drive she's not over heating anymore or blowing white smoke. Altho for about 3 mins my radiator smoked any ideas.

Be safe working in the tornado weather! I watched "Tornado Rampage 2011" last night on discovery channel and even tho we had some big tornadoes here in north GA, it was almost nothing compared to middle Alabama and Missouri.

Please be careful and hide your DSM cause tornadoes are not prejudice.

Well the na an neon sit outside my awd sits in my workshop. Ya it was crazy the wind stole my hoddie when I tried to put it on

You will need to pull the head off and redo it. If you got an coolant flowing across that gasket then it will never seal up right. It will just leak. Everything needs to be dry when you torque the studs back down.

Have fun.

It sealed fine. After 30 miles I did a compression test and I'm satisfied with the numbers. It's not smoking, no coolant smell. Not over heating
