So i've got to replace my HG. The head is already off and all that good stuff. I know i should clean both surfaces really well. But i'm curious if i should spray the gasket with "copper gasket spray" and if that'll make a difference. Also any tips or tricks to make the job easier would be appreciated!

Use a razor blade to scrape the tough stuff off the head and block. then use 400-600 grit to get the rest. After that I usually clean the surface with oil and wax remover from the painting section.

Permatex makes a high temperature gasket spray. It's pink, I use it on all the head gaskets I do and I've never had a comeback.

The washers that guy was talking about are on the outer corners. but you probably figured that out when you were pulling your head bolts.

take your time cleaning up that surface.. its suppose to be a mirror like finish if your using a mls gasket. maby take your head to the machine shop atleast to get it milled or whatever and do your magic on the block... also like i said, its not recomended by the manufactures to use copper spray with the metal gaskets with the viton rubber.
