To preface this, years ago I had turn signal fuses blow quite often and eventually stuck a 15a fuse in there instead of the 10a and never had an issue beyond that until now. Recently my hazards have been coming on with the turn signal intermittently. Sometimes as soon as I hit the turn signal the hazards come on. Sometimes the turn signal is working correctly and then it switches to hazards. I've just seen today the hazards came on then went back to the turn signal. It all seems completely random to me as I cannot reliably reproduce the problem. In fact it rarely happens when I'm trying to have it happen for testing purposes. It's not related to head lights, brake lights, or my stereo system from what I've seen. I've already replaced the flasher unit. Tried 3 different ones and still have the problem. All the bulbs work. I'm unsure if there's anything I can reasonably do myself before having to shell out to bring this somewhere to be diagnosed and hopefully fixed.

I could have looked for another switch when I was at the junkyard for the flasher unit (that goes in behind the center console). I can't imagine the switch on the steering column would cause this problem. I'm actually thinking maybe there's an issue with the hazard switch and am going to try to look at that when I get a chance. It's likely a wiring issue since the fuse used to blow but I've never really messed with wiring.

Just to be clear when you say switch you mean the turn signal switch on the steering column? I assumed there wasn't much in that. I'll have to look in to what those cost. May be better off getting something new than from the junkyard depending on the price. Went to the junkyard for the flasher unit because it was about $15 vs $70+ new online.

Inside that multifunction switch is all of the individual paths for the hazards and turn signals wire. If you look up a diagram of the switch l, it can explain better. And yes. The switch on the column.

Exactly what kuzi said.
It's a malfunction in your switch most likely the contacts are worn out or the contact holder is broken inside letting it be able to ground to both at one time or ground to hazard switch wire inside your column.

Thanks guys. I'll look in to the switch and hopefully that turns out to be the problem. They look like they're not cheap but not super expensive after a quick google search. Not sure if I should risk the junkyard.

Replaced the switch and still have the issue. $55 down the drain so far between replacing those 2 parts. Seems to be a wiring issue. Getting whine over my speakers with the engine on now too. Seems to be alternator whine. I'm not sure I can do much myself from here so going to have to bring it somewhere and spend quite a bit.
