Did they make a cyclone non-turbo? My friend has a 1g with a cyclone motor and it's non turbo. I think whoever had it before took the turbo off and made it a non-turbo b/c the intake look rigged on there.

No, all Cyclone engines as far as I know were turbocharged and intercooled. It should say "Intercooled Turbo" right on top of the manifold.

The engines themselves aren't any different from U.S. ones other than the cyclone intake manifold.

Yes, there are also non-turbo engines with a cyclone manifold. I can't picture it at the moment, but I think it looked like a U.S. turbo manifold except it says "cyclone." Nothing special at all other than having the name on it.

Turbo engines with a cyclone intake have the dual-runner cyclone intake like Quasi described.

A turbo motor is a turbo motor. Other than very minor differences, if any, a 6-bolt is a 6-bolt and a 7-bolt is a 7-bolt. The main (only?) differences are the JDMs that got the dual-runner intake manifold (some say "cyclone turbo intercooler," some say "multi-port something or other"), compared to USDM ones having the simpler intake.

Dunno for non-turbos. I seriously doubt a JDM non-turbo would have turbo-motor pistons and things in it, so, same deal, a non-turbo is most likely a non-turbo, no matter what country it's built for, but the intakes and other minor things might be different.

There is definitely a USDM-like intake manifold that says "cyclone" on it that was on some non-turbo JDM Mitsubishis. Pretty rare. I think I've only seen two, not that I look for them. Your friend might have a turbo motor with the turbo taken off, or he could have a non-turbo but swapped the intake manifold. There would be no point in having a dual-runner intake on a non-turbo motor because a non-turbo motor would never make any boost to use the secondary runners.

Also, I think all Galant VR4 turbos got the "cyclone turbo intercooler" intake while some/most EVO's got the same-looking thing but says the "multi-whatever" on it. I think some EVO's also got a non-dual-runner intake, so not every turbo motor will necessarily have a dual-runner intake on it.

Clear as mud? Ok.
