I replaced the support struts on my hatch, but now I can't close it because the latch is closed and I've tried everything I can think of but still can't figure out how to open it.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this?

Insert a pencil into the latch as if it was the locking tab on the hatch. Now, turn the key to open and lift up on pencil at the same time. Thie will realease the latch so you can close the hatch.

Thanks!

I just went out to try, but realized it's stuck OPEN. I thought it was closed and that's why it wouldn't latch, but it's OPEN and won't close when I put the hatch down. It was working before I changed the lift supports, so I was thinking I did something, but..??? I could see with the pencil that I can push down and move the part of the latch that moves to go over the top of the locking tab a little tiny bit but not enough to close it. It also seems like I have to turn the key a lot to any rotation. Also turning the key does not move the latch to close it.
